Review of League 2 so far...

Wycombe currently sit top of League Two by quite some way, but it's a very tight race behind them for the other two automatic spots. 6 points separate eleven clubs in the promotion race, but Luton still look doomed as despite great efforts so far, they are still a huge 18 points from safety, but Bournemouth are still fighting strong.

It's been a strange League Two so far. Other than Wycombe Wanderers' march onto League One, not one of the other eleven realistic challengers for promotion seem to want to pull away. Only six points separate Lincoln in 12th from Bury in 2nd, meaning that the Imps could be easily in the Playoff places by the end of 2008.

Wycombe are certainly wasting no time under Peter Taylor. The Chairboys have come close to promotion on numerous occasions in recent years and it could finally be their year. However, they have been in this position before and thrown it all away, but I think they are stronger this time and could break Notts County's record of quickest ever promotion.

Alan Knill's Bury have had a much better season by their recent standards. They've struggled in the majority of seasons since joining League Two in 2002/3, only avoiding relegation on the final day on more than one occasion.

Brentford have certainly impressed many and are, to date, "THE GLORYHUNTER'S" longest watched team. With a strong home record and a measley defence, the Bees look a good bet for promotion under Andy Scott, but whether they can keep up the pace amongst better squads is up to debate.

Despite a lot of their fans claiming they'll walk League Two, Bradford find themselves down in fourth position. Failure to beat teams lower down the table could inevitably cost them a return to League One.

The surprise package has to be Exeter. Other than a shock 6-1 home thrashing by Chesterfield, the Grecians have been very consistent in their surge up the table and are certainly making the most of their time back in the Football League. However, one danger for them is if they get promoted again too quickly as we've all seen what's happened with teams such as Hereford and Rushden after they gained quick promotions.

Shrewsbury have been the side that have impressed most people so far. Granted, they were a bit rubbish when they faced us, but beating two of your promotion rivals by a scoreline of 7-0 certainly can't be scoffed at. If there's one team I fancy to win automatic promotion then it's Shrewsbury, but they will certainly have to avoid having players sent off after 2 minutes in the future.

Darlington will be disappointed so far with their season. Granted, they're only two points off of second place but they will feel that they should be much higher up the League. Whether they have a strong enough squad is anyone's guess, but I guess we'll soon find out.

Gillingham's season so far has been strange, winning runs followed by awful performances and they are one of the worst sides to visit Sincil Bank this season. I doubt that they have sufficient strenght to stay in touch with the promotion race and I think they will slip down the table in the near future.

Rochdale have made their usual consistent start to the season, currently sitting within striking distance of the automatics. Maybe I was a bit off with my prediction of winning the League but Rochdale are probably the best team to play us so far this season. I still expect them to easily make the Playoffs.

I was a bit wrong about Dagenham and Redbridge in the pre-season. I rated them as one of the worst teams in the division and they were god awful at Sincil Bank, despite winning. However, they've maintained their form and look a half-decent team now, scoring for fun and having the biggest goal difference in the division will certainly help their cause no end.

I wasn't impressed with Aldershot at all. Granted, they weren't awful but there was nothing about them that suggest they would be realistic promotion challengers for a long amount of time and I still don't think they're going to make the Playoffs.

Chesterfield are neither coming or going, they're just sitting casually in midtable and awaiting their inevitable mediocre end to the season. Long winning runs followed by long unbeaten runs makes them prime candiates for midtable.

Macclesfield fans will certainly be breathing a little easier this season as they are miles above the drop zone. Despite home thrashings at the hands of Darlington and Dagenham, they have a reasonable record and can probably relax in the knowledge that they're going nowhere this year.

The same could be said of Port Vale. I confidently predicted in pre-season that they would be midtable and not amount to anything.....and look where they are.

Morecambe are one of the sides who will be glad that they are sitting a hefty distance above the drop zone as they are one of the worst sides I've seen this season. With only one truly decent player, Morecambe should have enough to easily stay up.

Notts County are certainly not one of the division's best sides and could easily be the most likely candidates to get involved in a relegation battle. Too many drawn games means they sit 17th, nervously looking over their shoulders. However, they should realistically stay up due to having players such as Butcher and Forrester.

Chester have certainly looked more stable since Mark Wright took back over. He's stablised the club after a bad start and they're now keeping clean sheets on a regular basis. Still not anywhere near good enough for anything more than midtable, but they should be safe.

Where do you even begin with Accrington? You're never going to climb above relegation trouble if you don't sort out your home form. If they got that sorted then they'd be safe but with them only being twelve points above the drop zone, you'd never bet against them going down.

Barnet are the same. 16 points so far and very few reasons to be positive. The fact they'd be in the bottom two if it wasn't for the points deductions for the other clubs says it all. Selling Jason Puncheon could turn out to be their downfall.

But at least they're not Grimsby. The Mariners have won fewer points than any other team in the division and they are now just seven points above the relegation zone. Grimsby must be one of the favourites to go down with their awful record this season and a distinct lack of talent in their squad. Times look gloomy for the Mariners.

Rotherham have certainly given it a go this season, winning 30 points so far and climbing clear of the other two sides below them. A win could propel them above Grimsby and Barnet, but a recent bad run has got them nervously looking over their shoulders again, but they SHOULD be safe.

Bournemouth have also given it a good go so far and would sit 14th if it wasn't for the points deduction. However, whether they can stay up now that their best player has retired is very much up to debate.

Then we get to Luton, a team that must surely be looking the Blue Square right in the face. Again, they're giving it a good go but they're still a huge 18 points from safety and it's too big of a gap to catch up. It just aint going to happen.
