Andy Oakes didn't have to make a single save against the Imps during Darlington's 1-0 win over City. Due to Geoff Horsfield's laziness, Ben Wright's inability to score from two yards and a lot of hoofball, the Imps never looked like scoring and move into the final ten games of the season with the Playoffs now a very distant dream.
Darlington dominated the opening stages of the game as Rob Purdie hit the post within two minutes of the start of the game. It wasn't long however until the visitors did take the lead as Janos Kovacs yet again failed to pick up the player he was marking as Danny Carlton headed in six yards out.
O'Connor's near perfect through ball was wasted as Horsfield couldn't be bothered to run onto it. It was a slow half and Horsfield actually managed to find the motivation to swing his leg in the general direction of the ball, seeing his half-arsed effort trickle into the goalkeeper's arms, it was to one of only two efforts on target City had....the second of which saw Ben Wright head straight into the keeper's arms just minutes later.
A Darlington attack saw Purdie and Hatch both test Burch. Then Hatch forced Burch into a brilliant save, but his parry landed straight at the feet of Danny Carlton. The former Morecambe striker proceeded to blast it well over the net, bringing ironic cheers from the crowd.
City had valid claims for a penalty when Brown burst through, only to be brought down from behind. The referee decided to wave play on in a night where he gave the visitors a lot of decisions. Horsfield headed well wide of the target following an N'Guessan cross. That was the final act of the first half.
The first incident of the second half saw Kerr booked for going mental at referee Boyeson after he gave Darlington a free kick for a supposed foul on Carlton. The striker thought he had scored a second goal when he volleyed in impressively, but the offside flag had already gone off.
Geoff Horsfield's first bit of running during the night saw him making way for Patulea as Poole also replaced Gray for Darlington. Hatch shot wide for the visitors before Beevers headed wide for the Imps. Patulea headed wide from another N'Guessan cross in the 74th minute, it wasn't exactly an accident filled game. King replaced Brown for his first game in an Imps shirt since he returned from Boston United.
Ben Wright missed from close range before the referee blew for full time and City had wasted one of their games in hand.

Out of all the players started on the pitch last night, I'm struggling to pick any of the outfield players who actually deserve to play on such a regular basis. Kovacs, Beevers and Green can't defend. Kerr can't pass accurately, O'Connor and N'Guessan constantly try tricks but never actually get anywhere, whereas Wright and Horsfield have scored four goals between them all season...enough said.

strange a no show tonight but why???? didnt think they looked up for it at all i dont buy all that oh they must be tired its the same for darlo as for city, jackos post match soundbites are getting a tad predictable and not very encouraging, roll on next season then?
Spot on with that they looked definately not up for it tonight same team but not mentally the same team as the last 2 games.
