Burton have more than one foot in League Two

With just seven Blue Square Premier games left, Burton have a massive nine point gap over Cambridge United and look almost certain to be in League Two next season. Even if the sides below them win their games in hand, they will still be at least 8 points ahead of the chasing pack and almost certainly into the Football League.

The Burton fans are looking at League Two football with watering mouths, but they face a tough run in, including games against fellow promotion hopefuls Torquay twice, Histon, Kettering, Kidderminster Harriers and Oxford United. That fact means that it's not all over yet as the lowest placed team they have left to face are 9th placed Crawley.

That run could easily give hope to all the teams in the Playoff places, especially Histon and Kidderminster who both have two games in hand over The Brewers. Realistically though it seems that Burton are still the team who will be coming up as you can't seem them throwing away at least nine points.

Cambridge, Torquay and Histon are the teams who are seemingly heading to the Playoff party, but the race for the other place is certainly getting heated. Only two separate Kidderminster in fifth to Kettering Town in eighth. It will more than likely be one of those two as both Stevenage and Oxford have played more than both the Harriers and the Poppies.

However, the battle for the last Playoff place in the Blue Square Premier is nothing compared to the battle to avoid the last relegation place. Yeovil are currently the team occupying 21st place in League one, but a win could mathematically see them go up to 15th as only three points separate them from Leyton Orient.

It's nearly impossible to predict who will come down with Cheltenham and Hereford. Brighton could still bring themselves right back into the pack as they have two games in hand over most of the teams above them, two wins would draw them level with Yeovil and Northampton.

The only form side down in that area are Swindon, having recently recorded convincing wins over some of their relegation rivals. Other than that, there's no one team you can say confidently will pull away, and nor is it easy to predict who will go down with Hereford and Cheltenham.

Whilst Brentford seem to be running away with promotion from League Two, but behind them the race is as tight as ever. Bury in 2nd and Wycombe in 5th have just two points between them. Exeter seem a bit lonely in 6th but there is again just two points between Shrewsbury in 7th and Chesterfield in 9th, the Spirites having two games in hand.

Down the bottom is appears ever more likely that Luton won't finish bottom, but whether they escape relegation is still up for much debate as despite winning at the weekend, they still remain 11 points behind Grimsby with a game in hand. They do have the distraction of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy on Sunday, with their fans set to outnumber Scunthorpe's more than 3-to-1.

Chester appear to be the side most likely to suffere relegation with them, the men from the Saunders Honda stadium being without victory since well back into last year.
