Colchester United have signed recently released City man, Lee Beevers. The defender, best known for running around like a headless chicken, has left Sincil Bank after just over four years, joining in February 2005 from Boston United.
Beevers was the longest serving player at Sincil Bank before being released at the end of last season by Peter Jackson. Having joined just days after City beat his Boston United side in February 2005, Beevers made his debut against Leyton Orient but failed to hold down a starting place until the start of the 2006/7 season. He went on to have his best season as a City player and was named Player of the Season.
However, since then he had reverted back to his headless chicken way of defending, often hitting the ball straight to the opposition. The occasional run forward earlier this season saw several fans believe he was arguably our best player, but that didn't last long and after rejecting several contracts, he was released.
Good luck Colchester, you'll need it with Lee.

Not good for the last 6 month needed to go. Didn't schofield play him in midfield for about 6 games at the end of season during the bristol play off games?.
I think headless chicken is a massive disrespect to a player who always gave his all for the club.....his versatility will be missed hugely and although his last 3-6 months were mediocre his previous 3 and a half years were consistent and for me was one of our better players over this period.
His main problem is his versatility, he would have been a more consistent player if he had one position, that fact he played anywhere across the back line meant he was pushed here and there. Admitted.....awful midfielder though.
I think he will initially be on the bench for the U's but he will get a chance and flourish.
