What do Hull City and Cambridge United have in common?

It's been ten years where City won a respectable 68 away League games, and out of the 98 League defeats on the road, not one came at either Cambridge United or Hull City's Boothferry Park, the only two grounds City went to more than once and didn't lose at.

Lincoln made three visits to Cambridge United between April 2003 and November 2004 and didn't concede in that time. The game that City did win came in November 2004 with Francis Green getting the winner against Herve Renard's men. However, it should have been two wins as the visit in 2003 saw a goal controversially not given. Stuart Bimson mishit his cross and Marshall appeared to catch it and then not only land behind the line with the ball still firmly in hand, but also fall into the back of the net...still holding the ball.....not that it was given.

The other ground the City didn't see defeat at this decade was Hull City's Boothferry Park. Before they moved out during the 2002/3 season, Hull had hosted Lincoln twice at their old home, both games ending 1-1. The second of which could have seen both sides easily win. Much like what happened to City at Cambridge, Hull appeared to have put the ball clearly over the line, but it was strangely not given. City then went down the other end and Dave Cameron managed to miss an open goal from less than a yard out, nutmegging himself in the process.

Whereas those were the only two grounds City visited more than once and didn't lose at, there were numerous that City went to more than once and didn't win at. Hartlepool hosted the Imps five times in all competitions, City going home with a draw on two occasions, but also losing three times. Just one point came from four visits to Exeter's St James' Park, the exact same record City had from Feethams before Darlington moved out of there in 2004.

Northampton and Swansea City's Vetch both hosted City four times, both seeing two draws and two home wins. Halifax and Plymouth both got two wins and a draw over City, whereas Brentford, Huddersfield and the National Hockey Stadium all hosted Lincoln without seeing a defeat. However, there are only two grounds where we visited more than once that we had a 100% losing record at, the first being the Don Valley Stadium, losing 1-0 last season and 2-0 during November. The other being Yeovil Town (above, right) with two defeats from two.

Cheltenham Town is unsurprisingly the most common losing ground for City during the decade. City may have won the first meeting in 2000, but the five meetings at Whaddon Road since have all seen Cheltenham get the points. Notts County beat City at Meadow Lane in the three meetings between April 2005 and February 2007, whereas City lost all three games at either of Rotherham's homes. City have also lost two games in a row twice to Darlington, the first two being in the 1999/2000 and 2000/1 seasons, followed by the 2007/8 and 2008/9 games. City also recorded two straight defeats at Oxford, Plymouth, Scunthorpe, Wrexham and Yeovil.

Not many people will be surprised when I say that our five game winning streak at Shrewsbury Town was easily our best record at any away game. That run started with a 2-1 win in August 2002 thanks to goals from Adie Mike and Ben Sedgemore. The next three visits all ended 1-0 before a 2-1 win in City's first ever visit to the Prostar Stadium.

The next most consecutive wins against a single side away from home is our current run against Macclesfield. City have won on all three of our last visits to Macclesfield, two by a 2-1 scoreline and the other 1-0. City record back to back wins at Boston, Carlisle, Mansfield, Notts County, Oxford United, Rochdale, Scunthorpe, Southend and Wycombe Wanderers.

City also broke a club record this decade with the most consecutive away League wins. It started at Wycombe in April 2006 with a 3-1 win. A 1-0 win at Shrewsbury followed and the run continued into the next season as City won at Hereford United, Torquay United, Mansfield Town, Shrewsbury (again) and Wycombe (again).

Overall, City's record on the road in the League (not cup or Playoffs), reads as W68, D64, L98, F252, A304.

City recorded more away wins than defeats in 2003/4 and 2006/7. We also scored more goals on the road than we conceded in 2003/4 and 2004/5.
