Imps continue poor pre-season form against Sunderland

Lincoln's unconvincing record in pre-season continued last night after a defeat to a young Sunderland side. It now means that the Imps pre-season record stands as 2 wins and 3 defeats.
Sunderland sent a largely young side to Sincil Bank, with the only instantly recognisable name being that of Phil Bardsley, but that squad was more than enough to beat the Imps due to poor defending. A goal in either half was enough to see off the Imps, who had actually enjoyed long spells of possession.
The first goal in particular reinforced the need for another defender as City failed to clear a set piece. With Luke Foster still on trial, that despite Simpson yesterday stating that he wasn't planning on bringing in any new players before the new season begins, it does make you wonder if Foster might be offered a deal afterall.
City's next pre-season game sees them entertain Middlesbrough's U21 side.

Enjoyed the game, Sunderland's style & ball possession was impressive. Thought in the first half we played well, but in the second we were back to hoof ball.
Farman to me remains a major worry, keep thinking of Clive Dunn in Dad's Army..."don't panic" but Farman does!
If we just having a 'safe' season of mid table or just sneaking into top 10 then Farman be fine and will learn a lot over the season. If we want anything more at this stage I think he'd maybe hold us back
You build a team from the back by getting in a decent number of defenders and at the moment we have 5 and two of those haven't played yet in pre-season. Ever since the back man went to Posh all our managers have had a blind spot to the defence and until this sorted we will continue to struggle. Amazed at the comments one trust board member when I mentioned my concerns about the lack of defenders, he said 'Dont worry they'll just turn up!!!'and just moaned about Farman being hopeless which maybe he is but he might be better if he had proper defenders in front of him and not defensive midfielders filling in.
I'm worried that Simpson is no better as manager than the much criticized Holdsworth.
