City return with fond memories

City travel to a place where recent memories have been ones of extreme fondness. Glanford Park/Legoland is the place where City secured a place in the their first ever Playoff Final
City head to Scunthorpe on the back of an 8 game unbeaten run. Last season, the two teams met 4 times. The first game was a 1-0 victory to City at Sincil Bank but the game at Glanford Park ended 0-0. Both teams had good seasons and finished 5th and 6th respectively, meaning the first ever Lincolnshire derby in the playoffs. The first game was at Sincil Bank and finished 5-3 to City after goals from Weaver, Mayo, Smith and a brace from Yeo. The tie was effectively sealed but Scunny still had high hopes after coming from 3-1 down in the game at Sincil Bank to get 3-3, however, City had been ahead by 2 goals at 3 points in the game (2-0, 3-1 and 5-3). City also had 2 goals disallowed in the game from Butcher and Mayo.
The game at Glanford park was slightly less emphatic. City put the ball in the net mid-way through the 2nd half from a Butcher strike but it was ruled out due to Chris Cornelly being offside when he provided the knock down for Butcher. Going into injury time at the end of the 2nd half, the home stands emptied as they knew it was all over for them. Those that remained saw Simon Yeo secure the victory after being released by Peter Gain. Yeo could have made it 7-3 on aggregate a minute later but his shot from 3 yards out went narrowly wide. City went on to their first ever playoff final and first ever appearance at the national stadium!
Both sides however, got off to slow starts to the season, City only got 1 point from their first 4 games. Our last defeat was the penultimate game in August when City lost 2-1 at Bury. Since then, City have won 3 and drawn 5. City's defence is proving strong yet again, conceeding only 8 goals so far which is only bettered by Oxford. Only 2 of the 8 games have been conceeded at home.
Scunny have only won three of their last 11 games in all competitions. There last home game was an impressive 5-2 win over Cheltenham Town. Scunny are currently joint top of the "Biggest defeats" table, losing 5-0 at Mansfield, that result only matched by Kidderminster's 6-1 loss at Hull. Scunthorpe's main threat after the departure of Martin Curruthers, is Steven McClean, on loan from Rangers. He has scored 7 goals so far this season.
Scunthorpe currently lay 3 places and 2 points ahead of the Imps. Infact, if the Imps win on Saturday, the highest posistion they can get in the table is the posistion that Scunny are currently occupying.
So will City be able to replicate the good form against Scunny of last season? Will City be able to maintain their unbeaten run and increase it to 9, a run that can only be bettered by table-toppers, Hull. I predict that City will win 2-0 and then it'll be onto the LDV Game against Telford.
