Cola Cola have now officially taken over as the sponsers of the league and a new change has seen the Imps finally make it to Division 2 despite it still being the bottom division in the football league.
The new restructering has also seen the return of the Football League Championship taking over Division 1. Divisions 2 and 3 have both been promoted to Cola Cola League Divisions 1 and 2 respectivly.
Sir Brian Malwhinney, Chairman of the football league has backed ideas saying it's the way forward for football as it "offers a great way to get into the premership" despite it actually being the exact same thing but with a different name. All attendances were up last year. The league had the highest attendances for 40 years, the LDV Vans Trophy increased crowds of 31% and the Carling Cup had the most specators in 24 years as well as the highest playoff attendance figures for a long time.
However, it's not all great news for the Imps as the league are now looking to make it only 3 teams going up instead of 4 like the other football league divisions. If this had been the case last year, the 88th minute goal conceeded against Yeovil would have proved costly and the Imps wouldn't have made the playoffs. Torquay would have not gone up automatically and Grimsby wouldn't have been relegated to this division. Every Divison 3 teams is expected to vote against this move just as much as every Division 2 team is expected to be for it.
"Over the next few months we're looking to launch new initiatives aimed at coordinating and developing the outstanding work already carried out by the clubs.
