Bitter Sweet 20
By Nathan Jackson
March 7 2005
Imps Simon Yeo was in a bitter sweet mood after he scored his 20th of the season. In scoring the penalty on Saturday afternoon, Simon became the first player since Gareth Ainsworth to score 20 goals in a season.
This comes after Yeo also scored the first league hatrick since Gareth Ainsworth's (starting to notice a pattern?) against Scarborough in 1997/8. Yeo's goal on Saturday brought the score back to 2-3 but the Imps failed to score again but was disappointed that at the end of his day, the goal meant nothing.
"I'm proud to get 20 goals, but it would have meant an awful lot more if we had won the game," the striker told the Echo."
Most of Yeo's goals have come in the last month and and has scored in all but 4 of the games so far in 2005, those games are at home to Bury and Bristol Rovers aswell as away to Kidderminster and Cheltenham.
Only GTF is also on double figures with 10 despire only scoring once since November. Francis Green has scored 6 and Richardson scored 4. Carruthurs has so far failed to score.
Yeo's scoring record this season (home games in red)
Games where he has scored once - Scunthorpe, Derby (Cup), Birmingham (Cup), Mansfield, Kidderminster, Orient, Darlington, Chester, Mansfield, Rochdale, Boston, Cambridge, Orient, Wycombe
Games where he has scored twice - Northampton, Oxford
Games where he has scored thrice (three times) - Grimsby
