Imps off to best start yet

Although it may not seem it, this is the best start to a league season that the Imps have had under Keith Alexander. After 4 games, City had collected 5 points, more than the previous 3 efforts of 4,4 and 1 from the first four games. Ironic really considering people have said it's a bad start

Without the vast majority of people realising, this has officially been the best start to a season that we’ve had since Keith Alexander started his second reign as manager. So far, the Imps have 5 points, a win over Oxford, draws against Northampton and Chester. Only the game at Notts County has proved fruitless for the Imps. The Imps now have a point more than at the same point in previous seasons and more encouragingly, the Imps have also scored 6 goals, more than any other start in recent year.

 

This is the best start to the season we’ve had so far but it’ll take a lot to beat the overall start we had to the 2002/3 season. After the first four games in that season, we had 4 points after a win over Rochdale, a draw against Kidderminster and defeats to Boston and Carlisle. City had scored 3 goals in this time, including a very memorable one against Rochdale. At the other end, City had let in 4 goals. However, results soon started getting much better as City turned in 3 quickfire wins against Macclesfield, Shrewsbury and Scunthorpe leaving the Imps in 4^th place with 13 points from the opening 7 games.

 

The first 4 games of the 2003/4 season were a complete shambles to put it nicely. City had started the season with back to back defeats to Oxford and Torquay, a draw against Doncaster picked things up again before a 2-1 defeat at Bury 2 days later. After only 4 games, City had amased a total of 1 point, and only 1 goal, whereas 4 had been conceded. However, after that, the Imps did go on a run of 12 games unbeaten and only suffered 1 defeat in the league between August and the end of November.

 

Last season, City again had 4 points after the first four games. A 1-0 win at Shrewsbury was followed by a 1-1 draw against Southend but then came along defeats to Rushden and Scunthorpe. City would lose their next two league games after that as well, however, City did get on another undefeated run lasting 6 weeks. The first four games of this season produced 5 goals, however, the Imps had conceded 7 in this period.
