Matt Bloomer joins the Mariners

Matt Bloomer has become the first Imp to depart Sincil Bank in the transfer window and has returned to his old club. The out-of-favour defender returns to the club where he made his professional debut just 4 days after being on the losing side at Blundell Park. He joins Grimsby on a months loan.

Bloomer initially joined the Imps on loan from Hull City in the 2001/2 season and impressed in his month here and when Keith took over, he tried to buy several former loanees including Bloomer and James Dudgeon, however, it appeared Bloomer would sign for Telford, who he had spent the early part of the 2002/3 season on loan to. However, at the beginning of 2003, he was released by Hull and was snapped up by Keith Alexander and he became a useful member of the squad, able to fit into several roles at the club.

However, last season saw him lose his semi-regular place and was very rarely seen after he made 3 mistakes in the 3-2 home defeat against Wycombe.

Grimsby brought in Bloomer to cover an injury crisis at Blundell Park, ironic considering that Bloomer was part of the defence that conceeded 2 of the 3 goals in the 3-0 defeat at Grimsby last week. Bloomer joins the Mariners for a month with a view to a permanent move at the end of the month.
