Keates' joins the list of exitees

Popular Imps midfielder, Dean Keates has had his contract cancelled my mutual consent following problems in his personal life. The midfielder, who joined the Imps during the summer, handed in a transfer request a few weeks ago and has played since and today departed Sincil Bank on a permanent basis

Keates was arguably the most popular player with the fans after his determined style of play and 2 of the most memorable free kicks from recent years. He joined City from relegated Kidderminster Harriers in the summer and appeared to be settled but personal problems lead him to what he described as the most difficult decision of his life and today, his 24 game City career ended.

Speaking to RedimpsWorld, Keates said "I've sorted a few things out with the gaffer today and the chairman, they've been fantastic and understanding and there are personal reasons why I needed my contract terminated and thankfully they've understood and granted my wish and I appreciate everything the club has done for me."

"It's been the hardest decision I've had in football and although I've left clubs before but they've been quite easy decisions. The footballing side here has been fantastic and the gaffer and the chairman have done everything possible to try and get me to stay, however, with the personal problems that have developed over the last few months, it would have been very hard for me to stay at the club"

"I've enjoyed my time and I'm not a fantastic player (a lot of fans would disagree) but I go out every week and try and give 110%"
