Mayo joins lengthening injury list

Lincoln City defender, Paul Mayo could miss the rest of the season after part of his should bone got chipped off recently. The injury is expected to take at least 4 weeks to heal and with only 5 weeks of the regular season yet, it looks almost certain that Mayo will miss the remainder of the season.

Mayo rejoined the Imps in the summer from Watford after he failed to make the grade at Vicarage Road. He had been a regular in the first team squad before missing nearly 2 months with injury, an injury that he only got back from just a few weeks ago. This latest injury means that even if Mayo heals at the fastest rate possible for this injury, only the Rochdale game on May 6th would remain if the Imps don't make the playoffs.

Mayo, once scouted by Spurs has been the victim of a lot of critisism recently after several performances have been very below par and he has fallen down the pecking order and the first choice for his prefered left back position, is Jeff Hughes. Typically, when Mayo was injured against Wrexham in January, he was in the middle of the best form he has arguably ever shown for the Imps but in his absense, Jeff Hughes became a fans favourite and it is argued that if Hughes hadn't got injured recently, that Mayo wouldn't have even made it back into the starting line up.

Mayo joins an ever increasing list of players out for the Imps. Striker Simon Yeo will almost more than likely miss the rest of the season, the afformentioned Hughes has a calf strain that has lasted 3 weeks and McAuley will also likely miss the end of the season through injury. Luke Foster could also be due to join this list as he went off with a back injury in the midweek defeat at Carlisle.
