City face Scunthorpe in Carling Cup

Lincoln City have been drawn away to Brian Law's Scunthorpe United in the first round of this season's Carling Cup. It wasn't quite the glamour tie against Sunderland, Forest or Preston that the Imps' fans were hoping for but it's a great chance to progress through to the next round.
City have a great recent record at Glanford Park but the last time City played there in a cup competition, saw City lose 3-1 in the LDV Vans Trophy in 2001/2. Since then, City have won 1-0 and 3-1, drawn 0-0 and 1-1 and lost 3-2 at Glanford Park and the Imps will definately fancy their chances of a win over Scunthorpe United, especially after beating higher league opposition in the last 2 years. THe last meeting between the 2 came in City's 2-0 win in from of the Sky cameras in 2004/5.
City were hoping for a tie against one of the bigger clubs such as Preston or Sunderland but at least it's a local derby. The draw has thrown up some interesting ties including a repeat of the 2003/4 Playoff Final as Mansfield travel to Huddersfield. Accrington play Forest. The only local derby other than our game is Cheltenham vs Bristol City and Boston face a lovely journey to Brighton.
