Bloomer offered Cambridge contract

As expected, Cambridge United have offered a contract to recently released Imps' utility man, Matthew Bloomer. Keith Alexander released Bloomer just days before he quit Sincil Bank and after spending some of last season on loan to the U's after 2 spells over 5 season with the Imps.

Bloomer is currently pondering the offer from the Abbey Stadium after spending just over a month there last season, in which time the U's didn't lose and after being released by the Imps, Bloomer's only offer came from Cambridge United, leaving him to contemplate whether to accept the deal and have a guaranteed place to start the season or risk rejecting the contract in the hopes that he will be offered a deal by a football league club.

Bloomer initially joined the Imps on loan from Hull in 2001/2 and impressed many with his displays. He spent the early part of the following season on loan to the now defunct Telford United and when he was released from Hull during the season, they were favourites to sign him before Keith Alexander signed him on non-contract terms. Although he was never a first team regular, he did clock up a lot of appearances for the Imps but the one he will be remembered for was a home game against Wycombe in the 2004/5 when he made 3 mistakes that were all punished with Wycombe scoring and it ended 3-2 to the visitors.
