Derbyshire Premier League Preview 2002
The coming season starts on a slightly sad note with the decision of Heanor Town to withdraw from the Premier League. They felt that they could not guarantee to be able to field a side strong enough to compete in this strong League. Their demise created a vacancy which has been filled by Clifton who join Sawley as the promoted side.

A great deal of effort is being put in to meet the criteria laid down by the ECB, and grounds and facilities are improving. The League is confident that they will achieve the standards for continued accreditation and in this respect they will be helped by the decision of the Derbyshire County League, which provides the feeder League to the Premier League, to introduce a pyramid system in season 2003 covering the whole of Derbyshire. This will establish a procedure for promotion to the Premier League from the other major Leagues in the area, viz the Derbyshire and Cheshire League, the Yorkshire and Derbyshire League and the Burton and District League.
