Cork delighted to silence critics

Dominic Cork was delighted to have silenced the critics as Derbyshire recorded a 163-run victory over Glamorgan in the Frizzell County Championship. Cork's side got the new campaign off to the best possible start in Cardiff. And he believes his players have the potential to prove the doubters wrong this season.

Cork said: "Obviously I'm overjoyed that we've started the season with such a positive result and we know it's going to be a hard season. But the lads have put in a lot of work during the winter and in pre-season, especially on their fitness, and I'm delighted it's paid off in the first match."

"A lot of the Derbyshire players have had some stick in the press recently - a lot of it unfair criticism - and it gets to the boys. I've told them not to read any of it, but it does get to them anyway. And through this game, none of our players has had one headline despite some great performances."

Most notable among those performances were opener Steve Stubbings' second innings knock of 128 that helped Cork set a comfortable declaration, and career-best bowling figures of six for 103 from spinner Lian Wharton, who wrapped up the Glamorgan tail to seal Derbyshire's win.

Cork added: "I thought Lian bowled very well and he deserved it. He's worked hard at his game, he's a really bubbly character in the dressing room and I'm pleased for him. Steve Stubbings also deserves the accolades for the innings he played on the second and third days of the game."
