Derbyshire v Durham - day one report

Durham dismissed Derbyshire for 263 at Derby in division two of the Frizzell County Championship. Neil Killeen did most of the damage, recording figures of four for 52.

Durham's batsmen maintained the pressure on the home side, reducing their lead to 161 for the loss of three wickets before the close. Paul Collingwood will resume on 40 as the visitors look for their first win of the season.

Derbyshire had started confidently with Stephen Stubbings and Michael Di Venuto putting on 60 for the opening wicket before Mark Davies had Stubbings caught behind by Andrew Pratt for 19. Di Venuto continued to be adventurous but after reaching his half-century he became Killeen's first victim when he gave a sharp catch to Collingwood on 56.

Collingwood capped a fine performance by snapping up tail-ender Michael Deane for a duck to hand Killeen his fourth and final wicket. In between times Killeen also accounted for Dominic Hewson, trapped lbw for a duck, and Dominic Cork, caught and bowled for 56.

Were it not for Cork, and ninth-man Ali Bukhari who contributed 53 on his first-class debut, the home side's innings could have been far worse.

Durham's reply got off to a stuttering start when Cork reduced the visitors to 25 for two. He trapped opener Jonathan Lewis leg before for seven before repeating the trick to dismiss James Daley in identical fashion for five.

Martin Love halted the slide, making a cultured 45 before being bowled by Jason Kerr. Collingwood is still there though, and he will be looking to guide Durham to a first-innings lead.
