Abbey Glass Division 1

Marehay 112 lost to Spondon 113-2 by 8 wickets

With this overwhelming victory Spondon moved to the top, though it must be noted that they have played one more game. Arif Mehmood has been the mainstay of Marehay’s batting, and true to form he was their top scorer in this game with 45, but it wasn’t a match winning knock and their total wasn’t a challenging score. The honours belonged to Spondon’s bowlers, Joe Kellogg with 4-19 in six overs and Paul Cook with 4-47.Peter Davies, Spondon’s captain, emphasised Spondon’s advantage with a spirited knock of 71. In his final over he hit two sixes and was aiming to win the match with a final six when he was bowled. The title race in this Division is likely to develop into an intriguing exercise in the second half of the season.

Elvaston 196-8 lost to Morton 197-3 by 7 wickets

This was a set-back to Elvaston’s title hopes, but there was no doubting that Morton were good value. Elvaston batted first and had a poor start as they lost their first four wickets for 22. Their recovery stemmed from a splendid century from Paul Birch (105 not out), with good support from Simon Thompson (39). For Morton Nigel Mallender took 3-35, but it was their batsmen who won the day with Neil Elks making 61, James Miller 68 and John Aspinall 43. This win lifts Morton into contention with the chasing pack.

Lullington Park 178 lost to Belper Meadows 205-9 by 27 runs

This was a rare 27 point win for Belper and only the second defeat for Lullington. Dave Halliday (58) and Carl Parkin (38) led the way in the Belper innings, but there was a good spell from Lullington’s David Adams who took 4-48. George Chapman was top scorer for Lullington with 31, but it was a disappointing total. Ben Tait was again in fine bowling form for Belper, taking 4-37.

Shipley Hall 275-4 dec drew with Staveley Welfare 201-1

One thing was evident from this match, that the Shipley pitch was made for batting. Shipley’s star trio took full advantage, Mark Starr with 69, Harvinder Singh Sodhi with 78 and Zakir Hussain with 61, and they batted with such urgency that they were able to declare after 46 overs. Staveley couldn’t match their run rate but the showed that they, too, could take advantage of a perfect pitch. Martin Camm was 109 not out, Paul May 53 and Peter Camm 33 not out.

West Hallam 241-5 dec drew with Nutbrook 200-7

Here was another ground where the runs flowed freely. West Hallam’s innings was very much a team affair, with contributions from James Chapman (37), Wes Essex (63), Campbell Ogilvie (30), Andy Bowley (36) and Lee Barrow (46 not out). Nutbrook’s outstanding all-rounder Richard Cutts took 4-67 and then dominated their reply in making 86 as they played out their overs to earn an honourable draw. For West Hallam Steve Attenborough took 3-59.

Abbey Glass Division 2

Alfreton 151-8 drew with Sandiacre Town 2nds 171-9

This was a good performance for Alfreton against a strong Sandiacre side for whom Ian Hopkins made 42 and Jake Needham 64. There were good spells from Alfreton’s Ian Bowler (5-34) and Sandiacre’s Dave Jurison (3-21) and the day was saved by Alfreton’s Tom Young (41 not out) who guided Alfreton to their draw.

Allestree 167-2 beat Little Eaton 165 by 8 wickets

For Little Eaton Tim Carlier made 34 and Kevin Baldwin 43 not out, with Allestree’s Dave Gifford taking 3-39. Matt Sirrell (37) and Chris Ruck (47) gave Allestree a good start to their innings and Danny Walton saw them through quite comfortably with 40 not out.

Brailsford 169 lost to Denby 2nds 170-2 by 8 wickets

A good knock from Andy France (70) wasn’t enough to save Brailsford. Good bowling from Ian Burgoyne (5-31) and Dave Thompson (3-29) opened the way for what became an easy win. In Denby’s reply Simon Mann made 58 and Steven Payne was 31 not out.

Mickleover 171-6 lost to Ockbrook 2nds 174-4 by 6 wickets

Chris Mottram was top scorer for Mickleover with 48, with Ockbrook’s Oliver Gough taking 3-43. Ockbrook’s reply saw a lively response from Lindsey Morgan (65) and solid support from Paul Darlington (43). Best bowling from Mickleover came from Anthony Wagstaffe (3-56).

Rolleston 227-5 drew with Aston on Trent 167-7

Rolleston were always in a strong position in this game but failed to clinch a victory which would have enhanced their chances of promotion. Chris Colley made 57, Daniel Rowbotham 40 and Alan Mellor 40 not out to put their side in with a chance, but they were foiled by Rafaqat Ali who took 3-54 and went on to carry his bat for 71 not out.

Ticknall 183 beat Duffield 108 by 75 runs

This was Ticknall’s seventh win and keeps them clear at the top of the table. There were decent knocks from Graham Chamberlain (41) and Luke Harvey (33) against some tight bowling from Dave Gadsby (4-18) and Keith Elliott (4-54).It wasn’t a big score, but it was enough because Zac Lucas was in prime form as he ripped through the Duffield innings, taking 7-30.

Derbyshire Building Society Division 3A

There was an emphatic win for Ambergate against Alvaston & Boulton 2nds. Phil Mason took 4-30 as A&B were dismissed for 81. Ambergate lost four wickets, all to Steve Ottewell (4-42) but Imran Ullah (42 not out) saw them safely home. Despite this defeat A&B remain top.

Quarndon batted well against Derby Congs to reach 192-5 with Richard Smaile scoring 52 and Lee Gregory 46, but Congs hit off the runs in 38 overs for the loss of 4 wickets with Vernal Cooper on 84 not out.

Rolls Royce followed up their success in reaching the Final of the Butterley Cup with a 4 wicket win against South Wingfield. Marl Lindley made 80 for South Wingfield and Phil Daft was 52 not out for Royces.

Spondon 2nds amassed a big score of 255-7 against Darley Abbey but the game ended in a draw with Darley Abbey 174-4. For Spondon Steve Baker made 53, Matt Jones 91 and Ben Ashdown 50 not out.. Phil Jepson was the star for Darley Abbey with 88.

Tibshelf were narrowley beaten by Elvaston 2nds by 3 wickets.Lindsey Tideswell made 51 for Tibshelf and for Elvaston James Bodill took 6-27 and Steve Schofield was 52 not out.
