| THE MAYOR OF DERBY’S CRICKET CHARITY COMPETITION THE JACKSON CUP SEMI-FINAL played at Ockbrook on Thursday July 11 Sawley & LE Park 159-6 beat West Hallam 117-9 by 42 runs Sawley batted first and were kept in check in the early part of their innings by some accurate bowling by Peter Hort and Steve Attenborough. After losing 3-28 the game turned in Sawley’s favour by a stand of 79 between Richard Lawton and Ahmed Gondal. Lawton was out for 25, but Gondal went on to dominate the play in a furious knock which yielded 95 runs. He was out off the last ball of the innings, caught on the boundary going for the six which would have taken him to his century. For West Hallam Peter Hort, Steve Attenborough and Chris Rudd took two wickets apiece. West Hallam batted well, but failed to produce the major innings to compare with that of Gondal, who confirmed his value to the side by bowling at a very fast pace, taking 2-20. Joe Greenhalgh came on late and took 3-15. The second Semi-Final in the Jackson Cup, between Ockbrook and Denby, will be held at Ockbrook CC on Wednesday July 17th. The Final will be at the County Ground on Friday July 26 The Butterley Cup Final will be held at Alvaston & Boulton CC on Friday July 19th between Rolls Royce and Ockbrook & Borrowash 2nds.
