Abbey Glass Division One

Lullington Park 114 lost to Marehay 210-8 by 96 runs

It was a close thing in the end, but Marehay dominated the game. They posted a good total, thanks to Arif Mehmood (53) and Gary Buckley (51 not out), and when Lullington batted Mehmood featured again by taking 3-24. John Grimadell chipped in with 4-31 and Lullington were frustrated when their last man Danny Gough was given out lbw off the very last ball, one of five lbw’s in the innings. The 27 points gained in this match gave Marehay a further boost towards the title.It was a blow to Lullington’s promotion hopes.

Selston Town 191-9 drew with Spondon 195-6

Selston Town, lying deep down in the relegation zone, showed yet again that they are capable of taking on the teams at the top. They were unfortunate not to win this game after confining Spondon to a gettable total. The main contributors to Spondon’s score were Peter Davies (59), Dave Thomas (45), Matt Jones (32) and Dean Vickers (30), and for Selston Anthony Aduhene took 4-31. Selston’s skipper Chris Dunn (83) , set them on their way with another fine innings, and with John Barnett adding 32 Selston seemed to be moving comfortably to victory. Then, with their target in sight they lost three wickets in the penultimate over and and ended up five runs short. There were good spells for Spondon from Paul Cook (3-22) and Lee Fox (3-38).

Shipley Hall 212-5 beat West Hallam 105 by 107 runs

This powerful win restores Shipley’s title hopes. They were indebted to Harvinder Singh Sodhi who shone as batsman and bowler, scoring 85 and taking 5-27. He was ably assisted in the batting by Zak Hussain (65) and in the bowling by Neil Cox who took 3-21. Despite this set-back West Hallam are still in the hunt, but clearly this was not their day.

Belper Meadows 199-6 v Nutbrook 165-6 No Result

Belper was hit by a very heavy shower and this had the effect of reducing this game to a time match. In the end time ran out when the game had reached an interesting stage. Batting first Belper were well served by Paul Beastall (61) and Barry Dallas (48), whilst for Nutbrook Matt Sisson took 3-37 and David Hack 4-30. Nutbrook made a positive reply with good knocks from Alex Mace (45), Matt Sisson (37), and Damien Essex (42). Dave Halliday took 5-51 for Belper and the game had reached an interesting stage when time ran out.

Staveley Welfare 125-5 beat Morton 123 by 5 wickets

It took Morton 48.3 overs to grind their way to a modest total, with John Bullimore taking 3-25 and Tim Hoare 3-20. David Gray (42) was top scorer for Staveley, and they lost 5 wickets before they were home, with Morton’s John Holmes taking 3-31.

Aston on Trent 136 lost to Ockbrook 2nds 138-4 by 6 wickets

Aston’s low score included 35 from Sikander Iqbal, with Ockbrook’s Tom Holmes taking 4-43. Skipper Nigel Sulley held the Ockbrook innings together with 76 not out

Rolleston 115 lost to Ticknall 117-9 by 1 wicket

This was a low scoring game, but it went to the final over before Ticknall scraped a very narrow win which will greatly assist their promotion hopes. Rolleston were dismissed in 44 overs, with Zac Lucas taking 5-19. Ticknall then had 48 overs to get the runs on a pitch which gave help to the bowlers.Graham Chamberlain (34) was the only Ticknall batsman to make an impression, and for Rolleston Sean Green made good use of the pitch, taking 4-25. The winning run came in the last (48th) over.

Alfreton 145 lost to Allestree 157-8 by 12 runs

Allestree were helped along by Matt Sirrell (38), Paul Lynne (37) and Harvey Schofield (40) to a decent score under the damp conditions. For Alfreton David Schofield took 3-30, and Matt Linacre (54) gave them hope of a win, but the last word was with Matt Sirrell who produced a devastating spell, taking 6-20.

Brailsford 66 lost to Mickleover 70-3 by 7 wickets

This game didn’t last long. Chris Bolton took 4-1 and Brad Moore 4-16 before Mickleover coasted to a simple win.

Denby 2nds 181-6 drew with Little Eaton 102-7

It was a good team effort from Denby, with contributions from Trevor Sparham (36), Ben Perry-Taylor (32), Steven Payne (32) and Phil Glenn (33 not out).. This was a bit too much for Little Eaton but they can be commended for sticking it out for the draw.

Sandiacre Town 2nds 87 lost to Duffield 89-2 by 8 wickets

This was a rare and comprehensive defeat for Sandiacre. Duncan Bembridge (34) was the only batsman to stand up to the Duffield bowling, amongst whom Edward Sims (5-27) was outstanding and they were bowled out in 37 overs. When Duffield went in Chris Elliott took control and was 42 not out at the close.
