Some of the press have reached fever pitch over the non-comings and non-goings at Highbury this week. Zero going and Zero coming = Zero said Wenger in one of his less enigmatic moments.

You can’t get clearer than that, he went on to claim that his young players are getting better match by match and he doesn’t feel the squad needs any strengthening. He has every confidence in it.

He went on to say that the Essien transfer story was completely made up, and he has no interest in him. Lehmann is going nowhere and his relationship with him is fine; "the club needs two great goal keepers" so he will stay.

Wenger wants Edu to stay, when pushed on does Edu want to stay the reply was "I think so" Wenger went on to stress that last year after 22 games we had 52 points, this time we have 48 points, if injuries are taken into account, the gap of only 4 points is a great achievement.

True the team is 7 points behind Chelsea but he believes that is not insurmountable, he wants the squad to concentrate on its own efforts not the possible weaknesses of their opponents.

Wenger sounded emphatic, but it must be said that the Edu issue is unresolved, and with Gilberto 8 weeks off fitness, at least, it might not be the end of the story. Lehmann is back on the bench tomorrow how will that affect him? Maybe not this transfer round, but possibly by the next window he will want away.
