Being a long weekend without any real football being played, Boris took to musing over past achievements, and even narrower misses.

Maybe I have missed it, but in terms of records no one has ever mentioned that we are the only club to have been runners up in the Premiership three years running back to back- 98-9, 99,00, 00-01. No other club has achieved that in the Premiership. True in the old first division Manchester United, and Leeds United did achieve treble back to back runners up.

But on further scrutiny the record gets even more amazing because Arsenal won the Premiership either side of this treble. So the record is sandwiched between two championship doubles! So Arsenal won the league and cup double either side of this record. That has never been done before!

So its Arsenal 1^st 1997-8; Arsenal second 98-9, 99,00, 00-01; Arsenal 1^{st 2001}-2

This is followed up by being runners up and FA Cup winners in 2002-3, and then an unbeaten season in 2003-4.

No wonder Wenger says he doesn’t feel that his team have been given full credit for what they have achieved.

 

Finally congratulations to the Chelsea Football team on winning the league, it is no time to be churlish, whatever fans think about Kenyon, or Abramovich, they have been amazingly consistent, and clearly have been the best team over the whole season.

I do hope Chelsea Fans don’t forget that their success was not just built on the roubles of one man, but that people like Ken Bates, Ranieri and Matthew Harding all played a role in restoring the club to its triumph of 50 years ago.
