LEICESTER lock forward Jim Hamilton is expected to miss the rest of Scotland's RBS 6 Nations Championship with a badly sprained right ankle. The 25-year-old former Barkers Butts colt was stretchered off the field during the second half of Scotland's 34-13 defeat by Ireland at Croke Park on Saturday.

Initially, there were fears that Hamilton might have suffered a break.

He was taken to Dublin's Mater Hospital for X-rays before being discharged to the care of the Scotland medical team.

Hamilton was examined by both Scotland team doctor Sam Hewitt and surgeon Gordon Mackay.

"The X-rays show that Jim has a badly sprained right ankle which is now immobilised in a boot," said Hewitt.

"He will be subject to ongoing assessment but, at this stage, is unlikely to play any further part in the championship."
