Coventry school's U15 Final – Tuesday 26th March

The Woodlands 27 – 12 Coundon Court. In a game boasting myriad district and county players it was a shame for the players and spectators that the strong wind played its part in creating the proverbial game of two halves. The Woodlands took advantage of the strong wind at their backs as they raced into 19-0 lead in under 20 minutes, which effectively won the game.

Handling with aplomb in all areas of the pitch, tries were scored by full back Gareth Windsor and a brace by winger Tom Walker, with two conversions from fly half and skipper Ben Palmer. 

The rate of scoring suggested a repeat of the two sides' previous match in the Daily Mail Vase in November when TWS ran out 50-5 winners. 

However, this was not to be as Coundon showed their mettle and began a spirited fightback.  Skipper and No 8 Shaundeep Sandhu scored in the coach car park corner to reduce the deficit just before half time, although Palmer kicked a penalty with virtually the last kick of the half. 

With the wind at their backs in the second half Coundon pressurised their opponents, and tested TWS's defensive structure.  As the half progressed Coundon loose-head Rob Bale pulled one try back and Jordan Kelly kicked the conversion, narrowing the score to 22-12 at one stage, and as Coundon continued to press and nearly scored, it looked as though there was going to be a nail biting last 10 minutes.  However, a clever defensive kick from Windsor, which resulted in a lineout to TWS, allowed the pressure to be relieved, and centre Sam Keating secured the victory for the Daily Mail Vase semi finalists with a try five minutes from time.

TWS therefore won their second CSRU trophy, after beating Bablake in the U12 tournament three years previously.
