Heath Stevens disappointed to miss final home match...

THERE was good news and bad for Coventry centre Heath Stevens yesterday as he learned his knee injury is not as serious as first feared but that it will keep him out of the final home game of the season.

The 19-year-old was forced off with a quarter of an hour to play of Saturday’s breathless 55-33 defeat at promotion-chasing Ealing after scoring one of his side’s five tries.

That took his total to five in as many games and came from his preferred position at outside centre and in what was a team performance that began poorly, came back well only to peter out at the end.

That ended Phil Maynard’s side’s ambitions of finishing in the top seven of National One, although a finish in the top half is still achievable.

Cov will look to make amends this weekend against title favourites Jersey – and Stevens is gutted to miss out.

“I saw the physio on Monday morning and we found there had been no ligament or cartilage damage so that’s a big positive.

“It’s just a matter of resting it, keeping off it for a couple of days and hopefully I’ll be back to finish the season off at Cinderford.

Do we actually have any threequarters that don't require Colombian Marching Powder to make 80 minutes?

I have been meaning to raise the question of injuries for some time. My impression is that there seem to be more injuries per season of late, than in previous years. Assuming this is so, what are the resons for this phenomenon? Are players more highly tuned and more prone to injury. Is health and safety at work a factor. Do clubs err on the side of caution for fear of litigation if things go wrong for a player. Perhaps someone closer to the playing side of the game give us an opinion
