Younis Khan Signs As A Player For 2007

It is being reported in the Asian media that Pakistani batsman Younis Khan has signed for Yorkshire for 2007. There's been much speculation, much of it from Younis himself, that he would also be made captain. An associate of Younis said the two parties had been unable to agree a captaincy contract.

Younis was at the centre of a major controversy which eventually led to the resignation of Shaharyar Khan as Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board last week.

Younis played for a short while in 2005 for english county, Nottinghamshire but did not enjoy great success.

The 28 year old has however enjoyed great success with the Pakistan national team scoring 3885 test runs at an average of 49.16 since his debut in 2000. He has also scored 3756 one day international runs at an average of 32.37 and a strike rate of 74.55. His first class average is 51.13.

The fact that Younis Khan has not been confirmed as Yorkshire captain for 2007 will suggest to many that Anthony McGrath is set to take up the reigns.
