David Byas Decides To Leave Yorkshire

Yorkshire County Cricket Club today confirmed that Director of Cricket, David Byas, has left the club by mutual consent. Chief executive Stewart Regan commented, 'The club would like to thank David for his service to Yorkshire.'

This brings to an end the protracted 'will he won't he saga' that has been rumbling on for several weeks. Byas had been asked to move sideways away from coaching the first team into a role overseeing cricket development throughout the county. The club will now need to fill the two new roles – Director of Professional Cricket and Director of Cricket Operations.

Byas has left the club with immediate effect. Regan added 'Under his leadership the club were promoted to the First Division of The Liverpool Victoria County Championship in 2005. He has also overseen the development of a number of the county’s emerging prospects. The club is going through a major change process both on and off the field and both David and the Club agree that it is time for a new structure. David has been a great servant to this club over the years and we wish him well in his future. I know David’s best wishes remain with the club.'

Day to day responsibilities within the cricket department will be shared between the coaching staff whilst the club recruit a replacement for David. An advert for both roles will appear in the national press in the very near future.

This site would like to extend appreciation for the hard work David has put in to Yorkshire cricket over the years. He is a proud Yorkshireman and was the captain who lifted the County Championship Trophy back in 2001.
