ELLIOTT A TYKE AGAIN

Australian Matthew Elliott has re-signed for Yorkshire and will play while Younis Khan is on World Cup duty with Pakistan. Elliott arrives in in time to play against Surrey in the County Championship opener starting 18th April.

Elliott (now 35) played for Yorkshire in 2002 when he featured in 5 Championship matches, but the innings that Yorkshire fans will remember is his unbreaten 128 at Lords against Somerset which helped Yorkshire lift the C&G Trophy. He has been in the runs recently for South Australia. He has averaged over 52 in the Ford Ranger Cup, including two hundreds.

The left-handed Aussie opener said: "I am delighted to be coming back to such a prestigious county as Yorkshire. Whilst I'll only be with the team for a few weeks at the start of the season, I am determined to play my part and put runs on the board. The club have taken some knocks over the past few weeks but I am confident that good times are ahead and I am pleased that I can make a contribution."

Yorkshire's chief executive Stewart Regan added: "We have been working very hard over the past few weeks to identify quality players who can hit the ground running. Matthew is a great acquisition and (although) he will only be with us for a short while we value his support for Yorkshire and look forward to welcoming him back to Headingley Carnegie."

Matthew played in 21 Tests for Australia, scoring 1,172 runs at 33.48, his best score being 199 against England at Headingley in 1997. He was one of Wisden’s Five Cricketers of the Year in 1998.
