Yorkshire beat Notts in Friend Provident opener

Yorkshire’s good start to the season continued when they beat the useful One Day side Nottinghamshire. Yorkshire were sent into bat and it was Younus Khan playing against his former county who played the starring role. He made exactly 100 (run out off the last ball).

This was a well constructed innings and made up for him missing out in the Championship against Surrey. Younus received great support from Andrew Gale (69 not out) in a fourth wicket partnership of 153 and wicket keeper Brophy who made 53 batting first wicket down. Yorkshire made 280 for 4 in their 50 overs.

In reply good accurate bowling restricted Notts to 237. Gillespie and Gough both took an early wicket to reduce Notts to 12 for 2 and they never really threatened to reach the Yorkshire total despite Chris Read’s 68. Gillespie took 2-29, Gough 2-35 and Kruis 3-61.

Yorkshire win by 37 runs.
