Thanks to some great generosity from a much much better photographer than I am I have a few snippets from the first innings of the FPT for your delectation. Many thanks to ALAIN LOCKYER from Somerset Photo News for these (he'll prbably do wedding s and Bamitzvas if he's not somewhere else in the world!!) The kit doesn't look much better on here and it REALLY doesn't go with CW's green gloves
v Hampshire FPT @ Taunton Sunday 20 Aril 2008
Victory by 6 wickets
There are my pitiful attempts through the window with the little camera thingy (5 megapixels my eyeballs!!)
Or there are much better pictures of Lamb getting off the mark
Or Carberry getting it really really wrong
Or Craig rushing off to congratulate John Francis when he makes him pay the ultimate price.
Or this guy bowling with real venom!!
To this guy and......
Getting this result....nice start to the summer.
And these come from Mike....Thanks from all of us
Tremlett gets nowhere near Phillips!
Trego gets Benham LBW
While Jonah makes the batsman think about it!
And the builders get closer to providing seats for us all!!
Hope you like 'em and that they don't take an age to load. Didn't mention that we all got a FPT "Newswire" fact sheet yesterday with some priceless bits in it.
Mike Gatting's FP "One to Watch"....(fanfare) ALEX GIDMAN!!
There was also an absolutely brilliant run down of the present FPT 2008 standings.
Yes you would be correct. Four spreadsheet/points tables all with nothing but zeros on them!!
It's a gift Bob...like my unnatural skill at taking long shots from press boxes and getting ALL the detail in!! I feel blessed and need to share with the world.
Fantastic photos and I am very jealous. My battered Canon 300D wouldn't manage anything like that though that has much to do with my ability behind the camera. No Somerset players in the Performance Squad I see...but excited to see if Rashid gets a chance this summer...is there a thread on the IPL? Sure there is but couldn't see it, so....
You are wrong about Kevin Pietersen`s availability for Hampshire at Taunton last weekend teddingtontown, so it was somewhat unfortunate that you went on to link this mistake with a slur against his views on the IPL.
Contrary to your and one or two other reports on this site, the ECB requested that Hampshire rest Pietersen until the FPT match against Somerset under the Rose Bowl floodlights on May 2. You will find he will not be in the Hampshire XI against Yorkshire for the four-day game at Leeds Carnegie tomorrow.
The complete list of England player availability for the start of the season can be accessed on cricinfo.
My mistake mouse...I had in mind the May game to watch KP myself so wires crossed although I maintain my stance on the IPL and my 'slur' against him is just my view which can be ignored or not.
teddingtontowncc Don’t feel too bad I thought Pieterson was playing.
On the Ben Phillips story on the club site Marcus Trescothick say’s.
Looking forward to the Sunday game.
Hampshire are a strong side and will include Kevin Pieterson, he texted me the other day to say he is looking forward to coming down here for the match.
I have to say I thought he'd be playing too.
I must have misread the same information.
We'd have beaten them anyway, even if he had played.
We're just different class these days.
While we are on the subject of the availability of Hampshire players, I see there has been a change of plan over the dates their captain, Dimitri Mascarenhas, will be playing for Jaipur in the IPL - and one that should be of benefit to Somerset.
Originally he was due to fly out to India on Monday, May 12, which would have enabled him to play for Hampshire in both the FPT match against Somerset under the Rose Bowl floodlights on May 2 and in the four-day championship match at Taunton starting on May 7.
Now he is flying out this Sunday instead and won`t return until May 12 - missing both the matches against us.
At Taunton this last Sunday he looked Hampshire`s best bat, certainly in the 50-over game, and their most economical bowler. Finally, does anyone else think it is strange that Hampshire made him captain after already agreeing to him going AWOL (if that isn`t a contradiction in terms) so early in the season?
It was a misinterpretation across the media as well. It seems that Hampshire first of all announced that KP would be playing in the Somerset FPT game but neglected to identify which one they meant and so all the media went to town on the ECB allowing England players to play in early games....then they clarified.
