Middx now look in double relegation danger after losing to Notts by 24 runs. The defeat was over shadowed when Ben Scott was caught by Harris with his foot was clearly over the square leg boundary, just as we were could possibly fight our way back into the game?

Having returned from Scarborough, the talk amongst our merry band of loyal supporters who made the journey was what is our committee doing to help our cause? Those committee members seen at Scarborough didn’t seem to be terribly bothered and those who were there at their own expense were very concerned.  The specific matters have been discussed on this board and I hope will be addressed.  A contributor to MTWD, for committee? Wright and Whelan in. Silverwood and Styris out. Presumably being rested for other matters tomorrow.  It had all the make up of priority on next 4 days. Let's hope it is worth our while.

 

 

Notts innings 228-7 

 

Built on Will Smith 53 and a quick fire David Hussey's 44. The Vulture (David Alleyne) made 18 runs through slogging (and was impeccable with keeping). Our fielding was very poor. Shah dropped Flemming a dolly, luckily got away with it as was out 6 runs later. Ed 0 dropped a harder one.  Semi positives were; Chris Wright was tidy early on, but the Vulture and Hussey destroyed him later.  Pepsi took 3 wickets had decent figures, but got away with some bad balls.   I felt generally it was a poor show by us in field and body language uninspiring.

 

 

Our Chase

 

Ed0 and Weekes were solid, but we were always way behind run rate. Morgan had a superb 56, until he was stupidly run out.  Then it was very difficult until Ben Scott tried to lead a recovery.

 

 

The Thin Line

 

I have decided to make an issue of this in my report. The game was almost lost at this point. But Ben Scott went for a big hit at square leg to put us back in the game.  Andrew Harris caught it, but I clearly saw his foot over boundary at that moment of impact of "catch". From what I could see he threw ball up, moved back over rope to make it look like a genuine "catch" inside rope.  The umpires took his word for it, there was no TV replay, but I, amongst many others in our area were convinced we were cheated out of 6 runs and lost a wicket. Harris received lots of deserved stick from the Upper Edrich  and Mound Stand to follow. I met Diamond after the game, who offered an alternative view, but I’m still convinced on what I saw.   On saying that, we would have probably still lost regardless.

 

 

Conclusion

 

 We lost by 24 runs, but we were never really close to a gettable target. Don’t rule out double relegation. Changes must be made. But seeing Harris foot over line as he caught ball still grinds on me.
