Plus Fours and Chava's Bolero

Plus Fours? Chava's Bolero?? Perhaps Janet (or someone else) can explain what Chava's Bolero is, as neither context nor Google provide me with a clue. Auntie Janet's covering e-mail says "sorry Ged forgot to take notes after tea". Well, as I am the man who forgot to take a pen to his first ever book signing, how can I complain? Many thanks to Janet for her, as always, stalwart report.

I had planned to catch up with my ironing on Tuesday, however one of my cats died Monday so I did not feel in the mood for ironing. Why am I telling you this, because my ‘reporting t-shirt’ was in the ironing? Don’t worry I did find something to wear, even if it was from my wardrobe of ‘best’ clothes.

I got to my seat, and settled down to hear that we had lost the toss and were fielding.  I got my DAB radio out and my knitting. The good news is that I am on the last piece of Chava’s bolero, so it will be finished on time.

The first two overs were maidens, with several, shouts for lbw. Surrey then progressed slowly until with the last ball of over 9 (bowled by Murts) Scotty takes a good catch to dismiss Brown for 7. This brings everyone’s favourite ex Middx player to the crease.

The 10th over was bowled from the pavilion end by Finny, taking over from Richo.  Wow what a catch. Malan takes a diving one handed catch at 3rd slip to dismiss Newman off Finn’s bowling (31/2). At this rate it will be a piece of cake!

Afzaal spoils the bowling figures

Afzaal starts cutting loose. He scored 50 off only 47 balls, whilst Ramps hardly scored. Afzaal was scoring freely peppering the boundary; such that at lunch the score was 105/2 off 29 overs with the over rate -2.

At 15.04pm Afzaal is bowled by Udal for 81 (174/3).

Surreys Uzman Afzaal stands dejectd as Middlesexs Ben Scott celebrates

To get to the new ball more quickly, both Compton and Hughes are brought on to bowl.

With the new ball Murts traps Batty lbw for 29, and Richo gets a wicket when Dexter takes a slip catch to dismiss Elliot for 1.   That’s the last of our successes as Surrey close on 290/5. Our bowling rate is a healthy +4.

Hi folks, a bolero os a kind of cardigan. Chava is one of my friend's youngest daughter (aged 11).

I forgot to add that after lunch Jez's brother Ben (a Surrey supporter) joined me until tea time.

Thanks, Janet. And there was me thinking that Chava was a composer, who, like Ravel, at one time wrote a Bolero.

It's a shame you didn't tell me about Ben's appearance until this morning, as I could have tried the headline "Janet Gets The Surrey Horne" or similar.

I thought it was something a young lady from the Walworth Road with a penchant for Kappa sportswear and Moscow Mules took on holiday to Spain..
