For PETErS sake WAKElY WAKElY

Highlight of day
By Kimmy
June 6 2010

Kimmy describes a day starting off seeing red, comments on ladies day ( glad Diamond not doing this report) , Barmy Kev's impressive lunch box, a special cap and a cross word. On a day where cricket was not at its most exciting or productive for Middlesex still plenty of positives to report on- I think.

So… having planning route last night, I arrive at Harrow and Wealdstone station to find the Bakerloo line running normally! Now I am confused, happy, an easier journey for me, but still confused…

However there was a slight problem… I’m writing the report today but have forgotten my pen! I pop to the shop on the station only to discover they only sell red ones, and as a true Spurs fan one of our motto's is NEVER RED… so, I guess I’ll pop and see Eric in the shop and purchase me one from there, then it can be my official report pen!

I arrive at the ground and there are quite a few milling about, in suits and dresses and hats… Ah yes Ladies day….

Well I for one am not in my finery, I intend to sit in the stands in the sun, and it’s just too hot to be wearing all that posh stuff….

Anyway I now have pen and can sit and write a few lines whilst waiting for Beefy (sausage) and Ken…

We end up in the upper Edrich and the game continues I see we need 9 more runs to gain an extra batting point…
Oh dear! We don’t get them… Just as the teams walk off a group come to sit near up us… one of the women (in a hat!) says, “Oh no look they’ve gone off… We’ve only just sat down and it’s all stopped…” It was pointed out to her why and she shut up!

However one of her friends had a rather natty black lace umbrella that went up we all laughed and went down again…

Not long before midday the ladies left… I guess the Harris garden opened then…?

Anyway we never did see them again….

So… back to the cricket Kev arrived… (Late as normal) sporting the biggest lunch box you have ever seen! So big in fact he had to drag it around on wheels! Yes there were several jokes about it…

Howzat for an impressive lunch box

Whilst our players are on the field I notice that Newman has decided to support Ladies Day and is himself sporting a hat! (He doesn’t usually bother!)

Super Ped got the first breakthrough with Howgego LBW for 23.. We spend the next 10 minutes trying to pronounce his name…

Another group to my left (ladies in hats!) were talking about different parts of the ground… “What’s that then?” was asked…. “The media centre” the reply…. Is the sign not big enough…?

Ooops too busy discussing the Cardiff/Bristol trip and missed the start of the Iceman’s bowling! Sorry! Mind you I think the announcer’s hat keeps flopping down in front of his face as he is late each time with the announcements about who is bowling!

Ha ha another break through, this time for the iceman, the wicket of Loye, who went for 0! Northants are now on 62 for 2…..
Lunch interval arrived and we took a peram.... walk across the outfield to look at the ladies in the Harris garden.... IOB was wandering around with a lady... and he said hello....

Too posh for Kimmy and Posh Margaret

It was all a bit to posh for us common folk so we took a wander round and watch Josh Davy in the nets..... We were thinking to ourselves, that Richard Scott works hard! There he was throwing ball after ball down.... There are some of the team who are called I suppose the back room staff who work tirelessly for little recognition, the coaches, the medical team the office and shop workers...
So I'd like to take a moment and say a big thank you......
Anyway back to the cricket...
I notice that the iceman had a bandage thingie round his right forearm... I think we decided it was some sort of compression thing, but not long after it came off!

Kev got bored and started to do the telegraph cryptic crossword.... Now I am rubbish at them (mainly because I can't spell!) but every once in a while I pull an answer out of the bag!
And so it was with this one....
The clue.... Chef had one oriental biscuit.... I'll tell you the answer later!

The play is so boring I think at some stage we stopped watching it and just chatted.
Posh Margaret seems to be a tied up

..It must have been really frustrating for the boys in the field... Wakely gets his 50 and so does Peters.. eventually I wonder if he is a family member of R4C?

ASBO is bowling so well and deserves a break but he just can't seem to find it

Then Tea is announced and the big announcement is that Gareth Berg is going to receive his county cap!! WOOHOO!!! It's so exciting, so deserved and I'm so happy!! I manage a photo or two.....

Kimmy's photo

Congratulations to the iceman!!! (isn't it funny whenever i do the report the iceman does the business... 5 fer. tone. county cap...? Funny that!
Anyway.... There a few (and I mean a few spots of rain people take cover and get told off for moving! Then within minutes the sun is out again!
Wakely gets his 100... C'mon the middle, dig deep, we really need to get a wicket here, it'll be a huge boost I promise!
Oh dear! that's not what I meant, Shaggy goes off after bowling 1 ball with a temporary hand injury... The team just seem to look at each other and scratch their heads... ACE takes the ball and bowls out the over!
Shaggy is soon back and takes a wicket! WOOHOO!!!! Wakely out for 108 Well done Shaun!
The iceman is back for a bowl, c'mon... no no a wicket not a boundary! Oh dear!
I have to say the middle are having a bit of a nightmare, now, overthrows, dropped balls Peters is a lucky, lucky man...
Shaggy bowls and ASBO takes a brilliant catch! so Northants are 260 for 4....

Play grinds to a close..... people wake up and start to make their was home.... at 280 for 4...
We retire to the tavern bar and congratulate the iceman... Kev and Beefy sing to super Ped and I just have a drink or two....

PS Oh yeah answer to the Crossword Clue ...  Cookie.  I got it. I got it . Kev didn't

Nice report Kimmy.

I made one of my few visits to the concrete jungle for Ladies Day and enjoyed it thoroughly. Good company, lovely dresses, the champagne tasted very sweet, even Gerry was looking smart!!
The highlight for me, apart from a chat with Fletch, was deciding to go up St John's Wood High Street for lunch and seeing the gun carriage parade, with about 50 fine beats ( not MTWD diehards). They certainly gained more applause than the cricket. Very proud moment.
Having watched Wakely score hundreds for Beds U.16's a few years ago and progress through the Academy side, it was interesting to see his continuation. Also Jack Brooks is a good Oxon boy, so lots of local interest.
One thanks the club for staging Ladies Day in support of Breakthrough Breast Care and hopes that a great deal of money was raised.
