Ton up! (again....)

ACE.... Nothing more to s
By Kimmy

Kimmy reports on another thrilling day for the middle, Ace gets his ton, Dexy doesn't and there are two on for hat tricks..... See NEVER a dull moment with the mighty middle!!

So... I'm changing tack for this report..... I've got the end of term blues and decided not to add all the waffle that I usually do.....

However we will see....

So we resumed on whatever it was.... (I was a bit late, having missed the train I was going to catch and then chatting to the girls and guys in the office, I was glad to see that Ace was still in and chugging along nicely!

Dexy reached his 50 with a missed catching opportunity which of course was good for us!

The next point of note was the 100 partnership which happened at the same time as we reached 300 runs and the extra points on the board, Dan had already told us that with 5 points we were guaranteed not to finish bottom.... We have all decided that we are going to be Derby fans for the remainder of the season!

The Ace gets his hundred... I'm told that it is his 50th 100 which seems like a fitting end to his Middlesex career. Well done Ace... he acknowledges all around the ground...

Dare I say that both seem to be batting well? Even '2 weeks' Richardson is sprinting around!

The 150 is the next milestone that is crossed.... just before lunch with Ace on 115 and Dexy on 79, both are batting well and there isn't really any cause for concern... the sun is shining and all is well with the world..

It's then lunch and Beefy and I take a stroll to the taxi café for a bite to eat.... LOVELY, if you haven't been then go... (I know there is only 1 day left, but next year...) out the the north gate and cross on the zebra crossing an it's 30 seconds walk.... I had a sausage roll, a bacon roll and a cuppa for £3.60... It was lovely!!

Anyway... Back to the cricket and Ace was soon out having scored 117... He faced 261 balls was batting for 315 minutes had 12 4's and 1 6's..... Many congratulations Ace, you really were brilliant...

The iceman comes into play and then disaster! Dexy is out!! He's on 97 and was looking so good.....I am truly gutted for him.... His mum and dad arrived from SA yesterday and wouldn't that have been brilliant to see.....

I have to say there is only one person to blame for this.... Not Dexy...., oh no.... It's Beefy's fault entirely!!! Y'see Beefy had been receiving text messages all day from people, Lower Pav, Ken and Kev..... And all day had his phone on noise.... ALL DAY I had told him to put it on silent, then bleep bleep!! There it goes again!!!!

Well Kev sends Beefy a message asking him where we are sitting which arrives just as the ball left Ali's hand.... BLEEP BLEEP.... and it's all over for Dexy.... Needless to say the phone is on bl**dy silent now!!!!!!

So.... JW... if you are looking for a new scapegoat...... his name is BEEFY ROBERTS!!!!

In trying to apologise for his fatal error he asks if I would like a drink and we wander from the grand stand to the Middx room.... And in the short time it takes us to walk there we loose the wickets of Berg and Murtaugh.... I have no idea how so don't ask.... but someone wasn't happy in the dressing room!! Then rain interrupts play and so we stay for a while in the Middx room and are joined by Kev.... We wish him a happy new year (Jewish for those who don't know) and he toasts us with a lemonade.. I know but it is new year.....

Play starts and we wander back to the grand stand to find we are all out for 392, again I have no idea!

It's a nice touch that ACE leads the players out, to a round of applause..

we start our bowling and have a bit of banter amongst ourselves, then Dexy brings ACE on for a bowl... 'must be doing something out there' I say to myself and with that Wheeldon is caught out of his crease by TRJ and they are now 47 for 1... I'm busy writing it up and he only goes and gets another one doesn't he?! I tell ya he's on fire!! It's now tea and they are on 49 for 2!

Super Ped is brought on after tea and gets a wicket.... We all start to sing to him and he turns gives us a huge smile and the thumbs up sign! You really are SUPER PED!!!

Then he gets another.... Kev goes mad!! Promises to streak if he gets his hat  trick.... Please... if there is a god, don't let Super ped get a hat trick.... as much as I want to to, I really don't want to see the naked Kev!!!

But it's fine, unfortunately Kev gets to keep his clothes on!!!!

And then a fantastic catch by AC to bring Worcs to 102 for 5!!!!

There seems to be an unknown male sitting on our balcony with papers in his hand.... There is mounting excitement as to who it might be, but even with binoculars and zoom lenses we just can't see who it might be... In the end I take a wander as ask in the office...... I laugh out loud and so does everyone else when I tell them!! It's the club's shrink.... apparently brought in to analyse those strange people singing and dancing in the grandstand...?

Ali played well got to 51 in 53 balls....

Kev starts quoting lower pav... 'c'mon 1 makes 2' and TRJ duly takes a wicket! I think the middx fans are starting to smell blood... Ali might be batting well, but he just can't play on his own!

Just after I write this there's a cry and TRJ has another wicket!!!

Another hat trick is on!!

It was an excellent ball bowled by TRJ, but was dropped....

Never mind.... Whoever said county cricket was boring was so wrong!!!

Worcs chug onto 180 for 7 and oh sh1t TRJ drops on right on the boundary..... It would have been brilliant, but I guess these things happen.... he's got 2 wickets, so I'm not going to say any more....

And at the close of play Worcs are 195 got 7... A great day, Ace's ton... Dexy's near ton, 2 near hat tricks and ALL to play for tomorrow!!!

I can't wait!!

Good effort writing all that. I think this game has been a true game of cricket. It has ebbed and flowed it has had passion respect intertwined within a showery Lord's. Neil Dexter is a beautiful batsman to the eye. Micheal Vaughan elegance no doubt. Last day should be cracking at THOC!

On the subject of boring cricket. TREX 20 one dimmensional slogathon with some tight finishes. The longer the game the purer the better the more exciting. England 2 run win in Ashes was too much for me to watch! Resorted to hand over tv teletext score!!! How to market the pure game seems to be the problem. Education like most things in life.

Well rit, Kimmy, many thanks.

Sadly I couldn't be there yesterday but this sort of report brings the day's play to life for me.

Hi Kimmy,
Thanks for the report. I was listening on the radio & Kevin hand was quite clear that Ace did not raise his bat to the pavilion when he got his ton so I am little confused by your comment.

Ace certainly gave the dressing room, or was it the committee room, the cold shoulder. But, according to Kev, his team mates gave him the reception warranted for a centurion and one ending his 15 year career with the club.

But it's not very Lord's is it? Snubbing your mates like that...

On his 50 he didn't raise his bat to the pavilion but did on his ton
