No Beefy hasn't been at the sauce and April 1st hasn't come early. Beefy gives a comprehensive review of our 2010 Championship winning success for our Ladies team. It proved to be a thriller and makes good reading. We also discover what Beefy potentially does when not following our men's team. Anything positive about our team is surely worth a read.
I decided as soon as last season was finished I thought a mention of the Middx ladies was due after winning the
Div 2 title this year. The team is led from the front by Beth Morgan who
has been captain for 4 years and is of course an England regular, when
Beth is away Jenny Halstead is captain. The girls play 10 county games,50
overs a side on a Sunday. They appear to not have a ground to call
home, sharing games with Ickenham,Edmonton and Twickenham CC.
The season started away at Cheshire cricket board with Middx
winning the toss and batting they made 233 ao in 49.5 overs,highlight
being Raveen Lakhtaria getting 57 before being bowled. Cheshire struggled on reply only making 140 with Danni Warren
taking 5-20 off 10 overs and the girls started their season by winning
by 93 runs.
Next up, was a home game at Edmonton CC v Essex ladies,Essex won the
toss and asked the Middle to bat and made 256 off 50 overs Beth Morgan
hitting 85 and Kate Blackwell ( Aussie international) getting 88 they get a
142 partnership. Essex replied but finished 10 runs short and the Middle
bowlers all shared the wickets.
After back to back wins,the girls travelled to Worcester where
Middx won the toss and batted, running up a score of 266-5 off 50, Beth
Morgan again in the runs getting 71 before falling LBW, Kate Blackwell
getting her maiden ton for the Middle and being not out . Worcs came into
bat,but sadly rain interfered with their pursuit of the Middle
score,their innings stopped at 99-8 off 37 overs, Naomi Dattani taking
4-23, the score was revised to 199 to win, but with it finishing early the
Middle again won, by 100 runs to chalk up the third win.
Confidence is high as they travelled to Warwickshire,the Middle
again winning the toss and deciding to bat, Beth Morgan not playing this
time, but the girls get a good score of 233 ao Kate Blackwell again in
top form hitting 68 no, Jenny Halstead helping with a score of 71 off 77
balls. Warwicks replied but couldn't contain the bowling and were all out
for 170, again all the bowlers taking wickets Danni Warren taking 3-30.
After this game,the girls said goodbye to Kate Blackwell who was going home to Australia.
Two home games followed,the first at Ickenham CC v Surrey, Surrey
won the toss and batted first with a score of 208, with the bowlers all
sharing wickets again,miidx started to bat with Jenny Halstead, Charlotte
Gallagher and Sarah Bartlett all adding good score, but sadly not enough
and the girls tasted defeat for the first time losing by 51 runs.
Next up,its a home game at Edmonton CC v Cheshire CB Middx won the
toss,deciding to bat they reached 206-5 off their 50, Jenny
Halstead,Helena Stolle(wkt keeper),Natasha Mills and Sarah Bartlett all
getting good scores .Cheshire replied but couldn't cope with the Middle
bowlers who restricted Cheshire to 150 ao,the winning habit had
returned.
The girls took a short break from the County Championship toplay
T20 cricket,resuming the CC with a home game at Twickenham CC v
Warwickshire ladies,Warwicks won the toss and put Midx into bat, Jenny
Halstead again in the runs finishing on 158 not out off 159
runs,supported by Helena Stolle who got 50 in a 154 partnership,the
Middle finishing on 255-4,Warwicke replied and the bowlers again took
the opposition apart bowling Warwicks out for 192,Jenny Halstead taking
3-34,Naomi Dattani 4-40.
Another home game was next,Worcs being hosted at Ickenham CC,Worcs
won the toss,putting Middx into bat,but rain didn't help this game,the
Middle made 175-8 off 50,Jenny Halstead not playing this time ,but
Natasha Miles getting 50 before being runout,with the rain coming
down,D/L helped and Worcs total was changed to needing 71 off 20
overs, Ria Raval took 3-12 as Worcs finished on 54 ao off 18.3 overs, this
was the last home game of the season,a successful home record of
winning 4,losing just 1 game.
The girls travelled to Southend to take on Essex the home side won
the toss and decided to bat first they put 210 on the board with Danni
Warren taking 2-34. The Middle replied,with Jenny Halstead back, she hit
82 before going LBW the rest of the team struggled for a change and were
all out for 178,the girls tasted defeat by 32 runs.
Final game of the season was away to Surrey. The Middle winning the toss
and decided to bat they posted a score of 156 ao,Helena Stolle getting
45,Surrey replied with a score of just 124 off 42 overs, 5 of the Surrey
batters going LBW and the girls won by 32 runs.
The team had to wait until the next day to find out what would
happen,champions or not,they get the news they all wanted that they were
crowned the Champions by a single point from Essex and they can look
forward to Div 1 cricket next season.A great season for the girls,and
good luck to them next year.
Looks like we have some good lady players here,shame they cant get a ground to call home.

I enjoyed reading the report. I suppose that having success at women's level is much better than no success at all.

Well done Beefy, it is indeed a great shame that these cricketers don't have a home base, it has been spoken about but difficult to change some views.
The ladies also very kindly came along to Uxbridge after one of their games and joined in a fund raising event, winning raffle prizes and drinking the bar dry.
Good luck to them in 2011.

A good report thanks Beefy. It is a pity that the ladies don't get much publicity. It's good to see this site doing what it can in that regard despite the condescension of one poster.

As someone who takes great pride in both MTWD and my own behavior, I would be very sad if it is me who is being referred to when antryg writes about "the condescension of one poster". Indeed, I have no recollection of posts appearing where women's cricket is spoken about condescendingly. Since people seem to be so concerned, I am actually now trying to take various steps towards improving my conduct on this site.
I think the time has now come to start a thread where people can write their views on other posters, as this subject seems to be clogging up other threads. It was for a similar reason that the LOWER LEAGUE FOOTBALL and Football chat (all teams) threads were set up, so hopefully a thread dedicated to people's opinions of other posters will reduce the amount of times the subject is mentioned on other threads, although as someone who prefers not to fall out with people, I would be unlikely to make many posts on this thread, unless of course I felt the need to respond to criticism of either myself or a poster I like.
May I once again congratulate Middlesex Women on their division two title and thank Beefy for giving up his time to write this article.

The Calcutta Telegraph seem to think that Middlesex's women's team have an excellent player coming through in Raveena Lakhtaria.
Lakhtaria was born in Edgware in October 1992, goes to school in Neasden and has received various Player of the Year awards for both Middlesex and MCC. She is part of the squad for an England Academy training camp in Pune next month.
May I wish Raveena the best of luck in the coming years.

And 18 days after I wrote about it on MTWD, an article about Raveena Lakhtaria's inclusion in the the England Academy Training camp in Pune has appeared on the official website.

It seems that Raveena Lakhtaria's career is going from strength to strength, as the Daily Telegraph report that she bowled to Sachin Tendulkar in the nets at Lord's, while they also published some quotes from her.
A list of her bowling analysises in 2011 can be viewed on Cricket Archive. Hopefullly she will go on to become someone Middlesex supporters can be proud of.\

An interview with Natasha Miles, who is mentioned in this article and who took 14 wickets and bowled economically for Middlesex Women in 2011, has appeared in the Otago Daily Times.
Hopefully she can have more success with Middlesex Women in 2012.

Two Middlesex players have been named in England Women’s Academy squad for a tour of South Africa, namely Catherine Dalton and Natasha Miles.
The team will play three Twenty20 and three 50-over matches against the full South Africa women side.

Beth Morgan has announced her retirement from international cricket, although she will continue playing for Middlesex.

I am gutted that England can no longer finish higher than 3rd at the Women’s World Cup. They convincingly beat hosts India, finalists West Indies and South Africa and could not have lost much more narrowly to surprise package Sri Lanka and arguably the strongest team in the world Australia.
Three matches were scheduled today in the final round of Super Six matches: England v New Zealand, Australia v West Indies and South Africa v Sri Lanka. The way the tournament has worked out is that all three matches will repeat themselves in either 3rd- or 5th-place play-offs on Friday or Saturday's final. Therefore, the present England v New Zealand match is technically academic, although I expect England will be keen to win both matches to end the tournament on a high. I am confident they will win today considering they are 182-2 after 38.5 overs.
