You Must Be Jocking

I’m about to reveal news that I’ve been trying to secret for some time. Super Tim Murtagh (Barmy Kev lookalike) will be available to play International Cricket for Scotland from next season.  He is fed up with being constantly overlooked by England and feel this is a too good an opportunity to turn down. His allegiance to Scotland has been verified by video evidence of being conceived in the streets in Glasgow.    (Regrettably this evidence has failed to comply with Sportnetwork censors).  When playing for Scotland he will change his name to Tim McCurtagh. If Ed Joyce can move back to Ireland why can’t I be Scottish,” he said I think.

The idea was discussed at the Player’s Sponsors end of seasons drink.  After the 10th red wine I clearly remember this being revealed. I was asked to wait till after England were knocked out of the world cup before I could announce this as was worried it may be a distraction.   I asked Gus Fraser if this was true and he certainly didn’t deny it in his very short response, which I recall the word “off” being used.

There is a strong rumour that Dawid MaClan , if he is not picked by England soon will do something similar as he once owned a Scottish Terrier.   “I would be a fool not to consider such avenues,” he kind of said.

On back of this many other County players not being picked by England may change allegiance .

(Sm22)

Middlesex supporters upset about Tim Murtagh joining Josh Davey in the Scotland side will be consoled that Scott Newman has join the April Fools Day spirit by writing on Twitter that Mahendra Singh Dhoni will play in our Twenty20 campaign in 2011.

Barmy Kev's previous April Fools Day jokes have included:

2010: Middlesex to use an outground in Bermuda
2009: Middlesex had been declared winners of the 2008 Stanford Trophy
2008: Middlesex to play a Twenty20 match at Wembley Stadium

Another joke from 12 months ago was when Iain O'Brien wrote on his blog that Middlesex would be holding a charity event at Lord's in which they play Arsenal in a Twenty20 match then a 7-a-side football match.
