Kimmy reports on a soggy day in Northants with not a poached egg in sight.... Read on it does make sense.... Honest!
Last night Spillage and I decided we would come up to Northampton. I had an unexpected day off work and Spillage was off too.
Theweather didn't look great, but it doesn't cost us for train travelthere so we thought why not?
We woke to rain (only light) and crossed our fingers for a break...
However on arrival at Northampton there was rain in the air.
We decided to walk to the ground via the town centre and find a cafe.
I wanted Poached eggs on toast and Spillage egg and chips.....Difficult? In Northampton, apparently so...
4 cafes we tried between the station and the main square.. In the end we gave up and had scrambled eggs and beans on toast.
I promised Spillage chips at lunch...
We continued our walk (it's about 2 miles in total) and find 27 million cafes each selling what we wanted..... Ho hum.. Next time then..
Anyway there is still a small amount of mizzle really... a mixture of drizzle and mist... mizzle... But it soon stops
We get to the ground about 11.15 to be told by the gateman that play wouldn't start till about 3pm...
We decide to retire to the local pub and have a cuppa (honest) Kevin Hand keeps me updated with his tweets and at 1.15pm we decide to order lunch. With that Kevin tweets that there will be in inspectionat 1.30pm with play due to start at 2.15pm!
Exciting stuff! But we need our lunch! Oh well....
By the time we entered the ground play had already started, but only just!
As we walked round the ground Tim took his first wicket!! WOW!! Thank goodness we arrived when we did!!
Great team work between Tim and Simmo, who took the catch! So Northants are 1 down for 8!! Whoop whoop!!! Show time!
As we walk round our attention is drawn to someone singing and shouting and jumping up and down and waving their arms.... At first I thought it was Kev, but I knew he hadn't arrived yet.... A staff member walked past us and told us that he is here all the time... A quicktest to Kev confirms this and his name is Wendall.... He's got a flag too, what a great guy!!
I'm confused (in my best LP voice!) I'm sure Crooky bowled one over from the pavilion end... Except it isn't shown on the score board! Maybe it's me... Next rotation TRJ bowls there.... Maybe I was imagining it?
Just as we take out seats Ollie takes a fantastic chat really stretched for it, and you know how tall he is, 8'3”!! Were just about to leap up but see the umpire signalling a no ball.... Oh heck! Off TRJ... It would have been fantastic... Oh well onward....
Crooky then goes to the indoor net end (would have thought they could name the stand?)
And gets a wicket! Whoop whoop!! Another GREAT catch by Ollie.... Well worth coming back for those catches!!
Kev arrived, which rather stopped any reporting... Far too busy chatting, chanting and generally watching the cricket!
Tea is then called and a few spots of rain turn into a few more.... Nottoo much time is lost though, we meet up with Dingy Bags and SeaxeMan, who unknown to me were sat below us!
The covers come off and the players came back on... for one over then offf or more rain.... I feel like I'm doing the okey-cokey (in out, inout!)
The covers come off (again) and on the players come until bad light stops play for the day... It was a bit murky I suppose, but after the rain delay it would have been nice to get a few more overs.....
Somewhere along the line there was another wicket by Crook (he's a nice guy!) and another catch off a TRJ no ball (although we think the batsman skied it after the no ball call..) Don't be too hard on the guy, he's still a youngster and is only just coming back after injury...
As we make our way round Ollie is out practising his bowling and waves when Kev calls out to him!
As to why the bowlers bowled the amount they did... I have no idea?
Dexy was at the ground, he spoke to a couple of people and said he's seen a specialist who said he would be out for at least two weeks......You have to feel for the guy!
And so we wandered back to the train station (well in a cab..) it was another good day (although a bit wet) and we have our first bowling point!!

Crooky described as an attacking bowler- in other words the others keep the pressure on, but he is more willing to try things, thus will never be the most economical, but I don't think it's luck either.
Glad the weather wasn't as bad as forecast, and your loyalty was rewarded.

Chunkyinargyll.I hope you do not mind me saying but you are sometimes like a dog with a large bone. I think most of us have got the message you wish to give about Newman by now. Though of course I do value your opinions.
As for me, we have reached the stage of the season when I really do not care who does and does not play for us and who is,using your words, safe for another week or not safe, so long as our club achieves what we all want this season
On that basis, there is an argument to say he should have played more for the first team.
Should he now be given a chance at this crucial stage of the season, is a matter of some debate.
However, if her does he will of course get my full support. Also does anyone know for certain how many games Strauss will play for us in the remainder of the season as his inclusion can surely only be a good thing for us.I will be sorry if that means one or two players have to be dropped but all that matters is us achieving our main objective this season.

The Daily Telegraph and Guardian both say that Andrew Strauss is likely to play in our final three County Championship matches, although Kevin Hand has written on everyone's favourite social network that he hopes he can play v Sussex in the Clydesdale Bank 40 on Monday too. The Telegraph article features quotes from Ollie Rayner.
Hopefully whoever plays for Middlesex over the remainder of the season - whether or not that includes the likes of Strauss, Scott Newman and Dan Housego - and whoever captains the side will help us achieve our objectives.
One thing I forgot to say was there was a lot of chat on the field. Much more that normal I think. I did ask those around me and we weren't sure, but I thought definately more encouragement between the lads (maybe different ground makesit sound more?
Those who go today might be able to say?

The 'all day breakfast' rammed into a big roll was'nt too bad either.
