JW gives us his thoughts on the game and other things.OK it's a transcript of his thread post on the game but no one had offered to do the report and this is report quality stuff.

The reason why I have been unable to post until about three hours after the end of this match is because I helped stack chairs, wait for Lower Mound to get autographs, travel home, eat supper and check the latest cricket news. I also watched the Olympic 100m men's final, although there is little point in me declaring that, as it only lasted 9.63 seconds. 

I am proud Ben Scott scored 29 not out off 11 balls, although it was a shame it came at the expense of a Middlesex win. When he came to the crease with Worcestershire needing 41 off 19 with Phil Hughes and Gareth Andrew both out, I thought I might as well cheer on any runs he scores, as the likelihood was that we would win. When they needed 24 off the final over, I was very confident of us defending it, but Scott had other ideas! I never doubted his abilities with the bat when he played for us, but sadly our management had other ideas. 

When we were 8-1 after 5 overs and 67-4 after 15.3 overs, I had a feeling this wouldn't be our day, but then Eoin Morgan and Josh Davey came together, and once they got going, I felt confident for most of the remainder of the match. With regards to Moggy, I intend to write about him on the thread bearing his name. With regards to Davey, I was proud to see him do well, as I have always known he is decent cricketer, although his chances have been limited. Indeed, on the rare occasions he is selected, he is often asked to bat too low to make an impact or is not asked to bowl. As well as his 53 not out, he took two wickets including Hughes. 

When Hughes and Daryl Mitchell were crawling along at less than 4.00 an over - at one stage Worcs were 56-2 after 16 overs with the rate required 8.70 - I felt very comfortable about how the match was going, and I thought to myself that the only way they could win would be taking risks and therefore probably losing wickets. However, Hughes then woke up, and all of a sudden the rate required stopped increasing. I knew that if Andrew was to come to the crease, they would have a great chance of chasing down our total, although I was still confident surely we would win. 

At least Steven Crook's first six overs went well, as did most of our bowlers. 

During the interval, Lower Mound asked Hughes for his autograph, only to be met by a reply of "no" and then "because I'm going out to bat" despite Hughes having only one glove on and not being due to open. Therefore, he went down in our estimations, which was a shame considering I really enjoyed watching him during his brief stay at Middlesex in 2009. Had he said something like "not now, but I'll do it later", then that would have been OK, but to initially refuse to do it gives a bad impression. I can understand players having their routine prior to batting, but surely it wouldn't have disrupted him to sign. Thankfully, he signed after the end of the match.
