BEEFY REPORTS ON DAY WITH PLENTY TO CELEBRATE
Surprise Surprise we lost toss. Announced TRJ out for Patel. We later realise its Patel for Rayner. Another Mr Perambulator special.
5th ball Chapple from Nursery end. Buck out LBW walking across wicket, 2nd over Hogg from Pav end Denly out for 4 caught behind.
1st change 6th over Shazhad (Sheepdip from Liverpool) for Hogg. There is a good turn out and Upper Pav is very busy, Weather good no wind as MCC flag all limp on grandstand. Lancs bring championship flag with them. We are having a grand day in Pavillion helping Lower Pav celebrating his on coming 60th birthday, being well looked after.
LP decides to move whilst bowling from Pav End. “Sit down” everyone, shouts. While discussing Carry On films AC manages excellent square cut for 4, next ball quick single and gain overthrow. Then at 39 clean bowled by Shazhad off stump cart wheeled.
50 up from 89 balls. No PA announcement Sheepdip is getting plenty of movement. At 68-3 Dext misses and so close to top of leg stump and next ball edge for 4 runs straight through vacant 3rd slip area.
PA has found his boring voice telling us Hogg for Shazhad. Then an hour after start he tells us it is Patel for Rayner in our team. Thank you.
50 partnership up as we take early lunch to beat the crowds. We find our Robbo out for 49. At lunch it’s 108-4. 21 extras in first session.
We have TRJ and Joe Denly awarded their deserved county caps at lunch.
In afternoon Dexy and Simmo batting steadily, with the odd scare. 2 yellow cards are issued, LP for not wearing his jacket going into bar and Beefy for using his phone behind the stand. Execute them!
At 137-4 Sheepdip comes on and Simmo takes a couple of boundaries and at 25 thinking nice to see him in runs. Hogg’s from Nursery End and 1st ball Dexy smashes him through covers. At this stage LP, announces, “he’s sloshed”. After a turned LBW appeal Sheepdip bowls an angry bouncer, which sails over for 4 byes. After batting so well Simmo edges one down the leg side which he really didn’t have to play at. 164-5
Extras move on to 30 as we are approaching 200. As Bergie and Dexy contribute runs too. Dexy brings up 50 with a lovely straight drive pass the bowler. This followed by another 4, which Berg has to move out of way for. Another straight drive brings up 50 partnership. At tea 239-5, Dexy 65, Berg 41. A good Middle session.
Straight after tea Berg hits through wide mid-on. The ball takes ages to reach long boundary, they could run 5 ,but goes for 4. A well-worked 2 brings up Berg’s 50. Berg strains something as he tries paddle sweep, he keeps stretching and rubbing after and Kimmy doesn’t offer assistance. As 100 partnership reached off 163 balls Dexy dropped by Sheepdip at mid off regulation catch. As 300 up, extras now 38. A fielding error by Proctor gives Dexy a gift of 4 runs and hook to Grandstand takes him to 96 and single to 97. Berg crazy shot, nothing ball, but bottomed ball and caught behind for 83. Will batted Bergie apart from that shot. A thin edge by Dexy brings his ton. He looks to the sky. We all know why?
New ball taken by Chapple and Sheepdip. Crook has some nice shots and reaches 15 in no time. For some reason the conversation is what is capital of Mexico. 350 up from 351 balls. Good shout from Sheepdip for Dexy except it was far too high and going down leg side. 50 partnership off 54 balls 40 extras now. More dodgy fielding helps as we end day 389-6.
