"Easy" for Dext. Adams makes us Grizzly

Beefy reports on a day that started like no cricket. We ended up with a close Middle century, an unlikely bowling hero, an unlikely batting hero, tension when we are surely over the line and some emotions of the day. Who says County Cricket is boring?
I arrived at ground with Kev after a 3 mile walk, having done a round trip of Nottingham thanks to a signpost pointing the wrong way. It was drizzling and covers were on at 11am. It was very slowly clearing up and at 11:30 umpires walk out to inspect. Kev shouts “ Get ‘em out”. The floodlights are turned on and Nick Cook says 11:45 start and to Kev “ Is that all right for you?”. It certainly was.
2nd ball of day Simmo drove for 4 another bonus point. With score 305 Fletch to Ollie just missed leg stump and next ball off mark with a 4. Soon after an edge 4 from Ollie followed by a glorious cover drive for 4. Unfortunately he was soon out caught at 2nd slip trying to repeat shot.
Harris managed an edged four and was dropped a dolly at 2nd slip by Hales who was practising slip catching with ease just before start. 3rd time lucky as Harris caught at slip.
The biggest cheer of day was 2 leg byes bought 50 extras up- standing ovation sit down Kev. Lunch was soon and Kev said they may claim extra half an hour and we ignored his comment. We were happy when 350 for 4th bonus point up then TRJ was caught at slip. Everyone got up for lunch but not to Kev's surprise the players carried on. Sorry Kev thought you were talking rubbish again.
Simmo in his 90’s we’re nervous especially when Murts had loud LBW shout turned down, phew! With Simmo 96, the boundary covered he pushed a single. Do them in 1s we thought. Next ball Murts out caught behind leaving Simmo stranded on 97. Someone then commented he shouldn’t have taken the single before ( hmmm!). We have a good lead let’s be happy.
I came back from liquid lunch 6-2. Kev who’s abstaining today of all days advises score is 6-2 and reports Cowan Middle stump clean bowled, Lumb LBW TRJ ball duck.
Podmore has been on field for Harris from start. Our bowling really tight 17 on scoreboard after 10 overs. As Notts slowly build their score the floodlights are off for the first time. Another standing ovation from Kev as the sun comes out, sit down! More excitement as Berg gets Alex Hales out caught behind, now 42-3. Our next worry is over rate -4. Next change indicates we won’t see Harris again, as “part time” bowler Neil Dexter is on. Straight away Patel lofted catch to Podmore with ball in air ages 62-4. Our nemesis Taylor still there he hits a cover drive for 4 “ good shot titch” was shout heard from Notts dressing room. Kev’s response is unprintable. Next ball he is out caught behind 67-5. Kev muttered “hard luck titch” as he walked up pavilion steps, fortunately quietly. Another from Dex, Wessels caught at slip by Ollie me and Kev are excited. The guy behind me said “ just because you’re winning no need to shout”. Ignoring this advice we are celebrating another wicket Reid LBW off Dexter for 1 67-7. Shazad Dexted for 1 a 5fer for Dext. 93-8 or should I say 18-8.
Adams was trying to slog wildly at everything as last gasp tactic. Everyone was on boundary for him and all in for Fletch. Some edgy boundaries and good slogs that bicepted fielders, this won’t last, surely. Kev kept saying remember Durham, as pessisim set in. They survive to tea with Fletch looking a reasonable no. 10.
After tea Adams when on 30 slog straight to fielder Dext in air for ages. He catches it and then it spilt, aaaagh! Worse still this is followed by two successive 6’s, aaaagh again! The only good news is over rate down to -1. Bowling changes of Murts and Ollie not working. Kev says he is going for walk to buy a wicket. It eventually works as while he is opposite in Upper Radcliffe Murts bowls Fletch for 47. " At bloody last" or something like that. Suddenly dark clouds appear too dark for floodlights. We finish with lead of 103 with 9 wickets left. I should be happy but somehow Notts are back in this. An hour and half wait before my booked train for home. Where’s the pub? Meanwhile Kev wants to leave the city of Nottingham ASAP.

Also like to add how good it was to see our own mate Vic Domain again,looking really relaxed and enjoying himself.
The umpires need a mention as well,in murky conditions,they let the game carry on.Floodlights needed to be on most of the time,but they were a credit by how they performed.
