Spitfires Grounded as Normal Service Is Resumed

Remember this time last year? It was a hot day at Uxbridge and that useless Scot Andy Murray loses a Wimbledon final, while hapless Middlesex lose to Kent in 20/20.  It is the same situation today. Perhaps I can get away with cutting and pasting last year’s report. If only!

So this is what happened last year http://www.cricketnetwork.co.uk/main/s66/st178291.htm

I should arrive at ground at 2:30, but unfortunately was delayed by an incident that needed the police intervention.  I was settled at ground very irked at 2:45. Kent were batting with score 26-2 from 5 overs, It was mentioned how well a Scot performed in my absence- Josh Davey took a great catch. I was also told the Kent team had been inconvenienced on journey by M25 delay on journey up and just made it in time. Well the game was certainly one way traffic. The MTWD oracle said the par score is 180 and Kent never looked like getting near this.

I won't give ball by ball commentary on how Kent reached 140, In summary, the Middlesex negatives were 4 very bad drop catches, 3 off Kyle Mills, and a Kent had a cameo at end, like Sorry achieved 2 days ago.  But this pitch looked easier than the Hoval. However, it looked like from all our views this score was even more than 40 below par.

To comment on atmospherics for Kent innings, Lower Pav was accused by 2 spectators of being too loud before I arrived. There followed muted chants one led by me “Uxbridge should be a Library” and” Middle Middle Middle, sh sh sh.”  When Voges was fielding in front of Vermin Corner .  “Lions Lions” was chanted  to him. He moved to midwicket and dropped one of the catches, which was quite amusing to us.

Our reply never looked like we were going to lose at any stage. Beefy commented throughout our response how we were way ahead of the “Vera. An overhead 6 by Rosso off of Philander in 3rd over was a highlight.

Darren Stevens was hit for four powerful fours in an over.  Then he was caught on boundray edge, only for fielder to overstep the rope and waited for umpire to give six-would have he been honest? With Mala just holding his end 4 Rosso looked like getting century.  It was shame when was out for 74., but thereafter the target achieved with consummate ease with Mala making 31 out of our 141.

Back to the atmosphere.  The chanting got louder and the 2 in front accepted this was not a library.  "4 more to the Middlesex" got repetitive and we were advised “we only had 1 song” by the Kent 1. Until there was a 6 , “6 more to the Middlesex” followed by “ We’ve only got two songs". There was even a chant of  “Dot ball to Middlesex”.  “We’ve only got 3 songs.”  I am afraid the chanting did not get much better

This victory was far too easy against a poor looking Kent side. Rossington innings was superb full of powerful hitting mixed with delicate shots. Llke I said after Unicorns game, you can only perform what is in front you

So Middlesex won very easily to give me time to focus on that classic final game at Wimbledon.   True to form Andy Murray won. And of course  I’m proud to be British,

Only here for the cricket

Kev.

Good report as always. As for those who do not like chanting or noise, perhaps 20/20 is not the place to be.

As for me, I thought the atmosphere was great, even though it was a very one sided contest from start to finish.
