School Report. C +

March 20 2014

Beefy reports on 1st day of our pre-season friendly. Like our team today I'm sure all elements will improve.

I arrive at Merchant Taylor's 2 O’ Clock expecting to see a crowd of one man and his dog. There was in fact a crowd at a guess of 80. There were no facilities available for the “masses”, which I'm sure will rectified for the games that matter. It was very cold and windy. We were bowling and our bowlers were rotated one or maybe two overs at a time. The players wearing various other players jumpers for warmth. Did I say it was cold? A Mexican was wearing no. 77, wasn’t that Scott Newnan’s no. for us, perhaps a desperate reacall? It was cold, I am sure I mentioned that earlier, so any layers did the job.

I saw our first wicket the taken off bowling of the "unselectable’ Finny caught behind by Simmo.  This was followed by some dropped catches on school sports field, schoolboy errors. There were no team sheets available. For knowing what was going on, there was a minute digitial scorecard, that I couldn’t quite see and one in pavilion which was not in my eyeshot. I apologise for lack of ball by ball commentary of my first pre season report. I can tell you I witnessed two Mexicans retired not out and evidently 60 overs was the agreed batting limit. Sorry no idea what the 2nd division side score was,

Tea was taken, did I mention it was cold. I stayed for 3 overs of our innings. We hardly put bat to ball, lost a wicket. I left due to frostbite, rumour has it we lost another wicket as I was sneaking out.

I'm confident there will be better and warmer days and I am not concerned despite how it may appear after my summary of me witnessing 2 1/2 hours  cricket. Quite frankly, I'm just glad to hear leather on willow and I'm now defrosted.

Stealing my lines Diamond...

Anyway, well done Beefy - good effort both to get there and to do a report.

After all, we won't see as much of this opposition as we usually do - about eight days less.

Beefy

I got the impression you were rather cold.

Well done to everyone who went for braving the elements.

Well done Beefy for doing the report.

You rivalled Scott of the Antarctic Beefy. Deserve a medal as do all players in pre season in March.

Can't help thinking that this is taking the last word of "Middlesex till we die" a shade too literally.

I wandered over for a bit this afternoon. The "crowd" was rather smaller (maybe about 20).

Despite the sun being out periodically, it was once again a bit windy and I rather wish I'd taken my woolly hat as I'm not sure that my ears survived the experience.
