It's not all Doom Bar and Gloom
2 others stuck it out

Diamond Ruled OK describes a day where all we can do is make the most out of the situation due to the weather, which is out of our hands. It was not all gloom and doom for those present and train spotting became a welcome distraction. For those not there hopefully there will be sunnier days ahead and enjoy the read.
A day which started with rain at 5am and cleared at 9am prompted the chances of a decent days play at Merchant Taylor's. An odd route to the ground via a ghost bus which did not appear on the timetable bar the instruction to " check bus blind" and a missed (by seconds) tube from Northwood Hills saw me in the ground in time for start of play. The fact it was still raining meant this was a no go regardless. Meet up with Beefy and Dingy Bags for a coffee which was nice and after a while proceeded to a day on the lash.Thence on a smoke break spotted our hero of Bristol Rogers and not out. Hence our demise began, a beer tent beckoned serving Doom Bar from a barrel (or 4 ) on gravity pump. Various inspections etc could provide no play for the day and Barmy Kev rocking up just meant it turned into a rat arsed session. Spot the train on the Met line got very boring as did the why isn't the super moving question. Fletch getting us a beer in had to be the highlight of the day. . It would have been except for seeing our very own Don Shelly doing a couple of laps of the track after inquiring what time the bar closed. He swore he needed the exercise and it was the driest place on the ground to get it. Inspection calls and to the umpires credit they did get out there and give it a regular look were to no avail as it was persistently raining throughout. Almost on the call of no play Barmy Kev who has joined Beefy, Rogers and not out and myself gets a round in, scotch o'clock I say. Play called off for the day and a real sorry moment felt for all at MCCC and MT who had worked so hard to set things up,no accounting for Bank Holiday weather though is there. Trains home for some, a train and bus for me via the Queens Head in Uxbridge without seeing a ball bowled. Real pity for the age group cricketers who were called off before noon, would have loved to have watched some of their game's. Superb company on one of those days that happens during a season and the only thing missing was Spillage who tried to text me to say he was in the ground, shame you weren't mate, you would have enjoyed the p1ss up. Brilliant bar service except the guvnor sent the eye candy home early and ran it himself with some big lad I wouldn't want to tangle with after a few beers. Good price ,great service, if your down in the next three days visit them. Super set up at MT's,the only thing they have no control over is the weather and today it got the better of us. Still we are top of the league.

The super soaky-up-thingy did work hard with a tidal wave in front of it at times, and the ground staff did their best when available to.
The older pavilion was a hummm of chat to start with, but that got less as the rain kept on falling, and the Middlesex youth side were walking about looking fed up,as their game was called off.
As Diamond says,a good social afternoon and lets hope it dries up for the rest of game.
SM,as we spent a fair bit of time keeping the bar staff company(would of been fed-up otherwise),And the close of play,'our barrel' was removed and replaced with a fresh, new one.

Of course Margot Leadbetter's house in 'the Good Life' was in Kewferry Drive, Northwood (not Surbiton as the storyline would have it) so she would only be about a mile from the ground.
Bus is not required.
Was there any Doom Bar left in the barrel Diamond after your mass attack?
Quote:We drained the barrel dry, SM. However, I believe fresh supplies are on the way.Seaxe_Man
