Oh Duckett! The young guns go for it!

Kimmy braves the seats in the Pavilion to report on today's game. And if you don't understand the 'young guns' bit, look up the wham! songs....

Spillage said I could go to the game today, as he was slightly more mobile than he had been.

So I sent a text to see if it would be a posh or casual day... It wasn't sent till late I didn’t expect a reply till this morning, I went to bed trying to decide an outfit for each...

Needless to say when the message came back this morning that it was posh, I changed my mind (I am female y'know!!)

Anyway I here, having driven down, sat on the top tier of the pavilion a very pleasant sunny morning... The sun is quite warm, although there is a nice breeze to cool me down. There are clouds coming, but according the Met office app on my phone it isn't supposed to rain..... (I do have brolly in my bag!!)

The first very pleasant surprise was the inclusion of Nick Gubbins. The young gun has been playing very well for both his uni and the seconds and deserves the inclusion. And he is one of the openers! Well, I wish him the very best.....

And as the 50 partnership comes up he seems to be (dare I say??) Settling in quite well??!!

And just as I type that the young gun hits a massive 6 over towards the grandstand /Compton!!.... Brilliant!!

This was ball that went for 6 courtesy of Kev

As both the openers head towards their 50's they seem very settled... Although I might edit that out if it goes wrong!!!

And that 4 takes Bucky to 53 off 94 balls!! Well done!! Well batted my lovely!!

The clouds start to move in; we hope that if there is any rain it stays away......

Lunch is called and that means I can charge my laptop which seems to not keep charge... I feel a trip back to Currys as it's still under warranty...

Whilst sitting in the members lounge Lots of players came past... I have to say they all said hello... So, to make sure no one feels left out...

Dexy, Dawid, Bucky and Gubbo... Ollie and Moggy. Then later on came the bowlers Oh and Simmo... Finny and Timmy who told me they had eaten roast beef and strawberry cheesecake; however he didn’t have any of that being a sportsman and all that!!! (Apparently! The cheesecake, not the sportsman!!)

Then it was time for the afternoon session... And Nick Gubbins scored his 50 of 105 balls! Brilliant knock on Middlesex CC debut, Nick! Well done!

However things take a change, it turns cooler and the clouds of doom begin to gather…

Both Bucky (due to ex middx Crooky, he did apologize to me afterwards!!) and Gubbo are out…

But don’t worry because Moggy and AC come to the crease…. They both do pretty well thank you very much!

AC starts his innings with a whack for 4! And Moggy with his first ball…

However the rain throughout the day wants us to play the hokey cokey…. In out in out….

One of the times we were on 180, which the power would have liked!

However we didn’t take long before we were back scoring runs and they both carried on with scoring runs left, right and centre!

The score increases at a nice pace… I just hope we reach 200 hundred before they get their next wicket!!

So we are off for tea, (due again to rain!)

Dingy, The Power and I pop to the Middx Room to meet with Kev and Diamond. It’s also a time to catch up with other members who we only see at the games.

Play resumes and we wander back to the top of the pavilion and sit right at the back, as it’s dry….

One minute it’s really dark, then the sun comes out…. I wish it would make its mind up!!

Then Moggy’s out for 27…. Night watchman or next in… That’s a debate for another day… But in comes Dexy….

Then AC gets his 50, pleased for him. Well done Dawid!

We have a further debate about when the game will finish, if all then overs will be bowled… I’ve threatened to buy the rule book to read…. But I don’t think that’ll happen this year…

Then it’s all finished for the day.. The Middle finish on 280 for 3with AC on 72 and Dexy on…. Oh, they turned off the scoreboards….

I’ll be going home then…

Oh Duckett! The young guns go for it!

Nice report Kimmy. Good to know that the players remain engaged and in good spirits. On to Day 2!
