Lower Mound builds up how scores built to what ended to a fantastic win for Middlesex
Surrey won the toss and decided to bat. Dilshan and Davies opened the batting, with Finn opening the bowling to Davies from the Pavilion end, and Murtagh bowling from the Nursery end. Dilshan scored the first boundary in the fifth ball, driving towards the Grand stand to make the score 5-0.
In the 6th over, Surrey lost their first wicket, with Davies caught by Malan at slip off Murtagh for 13 to make the score 23-1, bringing Solanki to the crease. Their 50 came up in the 13th over.
Solanki hit the first six of the match when hitting Dexter down the ground in the 18th over, which he followed three balls later with a four. After 20 overs, the score was 88-1, with Dilshan on 33 and Solanki on 42. At around this point, Dilshan started playing with intent, although he was nearly caught after playing one of his Dilscoops.
The 100 came up after 21.5 overs, followed two overs later by Solanki’s 50. Dilshan appeared to be caught for 49, but a no-ball was called due to insufficient fielders being inside the fielding circle, as this enabled him to reach his 50 with the next ball he faced. The score after 25 overs was 120-1. Solanki was dropped by Gubbins off Malan on 55, but was out lbw two balls later to make it 142-2. At around this point, Barmy Kev joined me, as he said he was doing his rounds, and I told him that I was confident Middlesex would win, as they tend to do so when I write a report.
This brought Burns to the crease, but he did not last long as he was run out for 9 after a good throw from Morgan after going for a quick single to make it 157-3, and this brought Wilson to the crease. He did not last long either, he was caught by Simpson for 10 to give Podmore his first List A wicket to make it 177-4. Mahmood was now in. Dilshan brought up his 100 with a four towards the Pavilion with what Jonathan says the commentators described as a ‘Dilflick’.
Dilshan was eventually out for 115 off 128 when he was caught by Simpson off Finn to make it 258-5 to bring Ansari to the crease. Mahmood brought his 50 up off 31 balls, although he was out three balls later when Malan caught him off Finn. They finished on 286-6, with pick of the bowlers Finn with 2-47 off 10 overs and Malan with 1-39 off 8 overs.
Our reply began with Edwards bowling from the Pavilion end and Mahmood from the Nursery end, and Rogers and Malan opening. 4 fours from Rogers meant 19 came off the fifth over to make the score 38-0, with Edwards’ figures 0-30 off 3 overs. The 50 came up after 8 overs. We lost our first wicket an over later, as Malan was caught by Ansari off Meaker for 18 with the score on 56 to bring in Gubbins.
Rogers was out for 42 off 44 when he was caught by Edwards off Dilshan to make it 86-2 to bring in Morgan. Another wicket fell an over later, as Gubbins was run out for 20 after Morgan refused to run to make it 88-3 and bring in Higgins. The 100 came up in the 20th over. Four overs later, Higgins was caught and bowled by Ansari to make it 126-4 to bring in Dexter. Morgan hit the first six of the innings off Dilshan in the 28th over. Two overs later, the 150 arrived.
Morgan brought his 50 up in the 34th over, coming off 46 balls. He hit his second six off Mahmood in the 38th over into the Mound stand over my head, with Dexter hitting a four in the same direction two balls later. Morgan was now on fire, and hit 4 fours in the following over off Meaker to bring up the 100 partnership in 14.4 overs to make it 61 off 66 required.
Dexter played his first shot of intent when he hit Dilshan for 4 in the 42nd over. Two overs, later Morgan brought up his 100 in the 44th over with a six off Dilshan, which he followed with two fours and another six to make it 20 off 4 scored and just 14 off 37 required. Victory was secured in the following over, as Morgan ran a single, Dexter then hit a six off Ansari and ran a single, and Morgan hit a four then a six.
Middlesex won by six wickets with 31 balls to spare. Morgan finished on 128 not out off 86 with 13 fours and 5 sixes, Dexter finished with 47 not out off 58 with 3 fours and 1 six, and their partnership was worth 166 not out in 20.3 overs, which bettered Middlesex's previous List A record partnership for the fifth wicket when Morgan and Davey put on 162 not out v Worcestershire at Uxbridge in 2012.

Thanks Lower Mound for report on our great win. I'm having problems with Sportnetwork software and apologise the format of report is not entirely user friendly.
