Samit not right here

There was a good start to a sun kissed day, no meaningless bag searches and I was able to walk straight in to Lord’s freely. I had my membership card scanned, I’m getting used to this, not a problem, I will even send some kind of picture for next season. 

Notts won the toss and did not elect bowl. This could be a long day, especially seeing short Tavern boundary. First over Mulaney plays glorious cover drive to this area then 5^th ball of day he is out plum LBW by Murts who  then bowled 5 successive maidens. A rushed single broke this impasse. This is where my ball by ball commentary on Murts bowling stops. Seaxe Man is willing to give further details of 30 + successive dot balls, if requested. 

I'm cutting and pasting from previous reports for now, our over rate is -1 after an hour. There is a TRJ over with 3 appeals all turned down. Few overs later there was a well-deserved wicket for TRJ of Greg Smith with Ollie justifying his place with a smart catch at 3rd slip. Notts make it safely to lunch with some 20-20 paced batting from Hales and Lumb from friendly bowling of Franklin and Ollie presumably to bring over rate down.  Cut paste from previous report, at lunch our over rate is -2, delete it’s now -1. I need to get over this red ink syndrome.

Straight after lunch Notts continued to bat at furious pace. Game running away from us until TRJ cleaned bowls Chesham boy Hales for 73 in his attempt to clout him in some upper tier. Then a rush of blood by Wessels out for 0 plum LBW.  Ollie not looking threatening but manages to deceive Lumb out LBW for 70 something, clearly spin to win ,now score 208-5. This is our session.

Tubby Patel was struggling after tea. A decisive moment Simmo seemed to drop a difficult one. Read escaped with one between keeper and first slip but not so expensive as was caught at 3^rd slip by Compo. Then Broad (boo from a few around us, OK it was me) came out to bat and didn’t last long. Hutton next and I made a 3^rd mangled attempt as a joke if he wore Lumb’s clothes “would this be Hutton dressed as Lumb?” Sorry Fozzie. There was also a quiz on names of Notts players with same surname as International cricketers. Answers on a postacard to MTWD

Moving on, Samit Patel started to play exquisite shots Hutton looked solid. Notts close at 345-7.

A draw looks likely result with dodgy forecast for Mon/Tues and ECB friendly pitch.  Today was a good advert for 5 day County Cricket. If only.
