For the first time this season I'm on way to Lord's with a positive spring in my step. No issues of feeling cold, weather interfering with play and yay we are in a winning position.
To enforce follow on or not was the main discussion point? What was not in the script was 3 successive fours from Balance off of Hi Fi which gives Yorkie's a batting point. As this partnership is built it looks less likely we would enforce the follow on. So once all out much to my surprise the follow on is enforced.
A Lyth and kicking heard in the Tavern last night moaning about not touching it when out yesterday could have no such complaints when caught behind early on. Same over Brook out . Double wicket maiden for Murts. Next over easy catch at slip 16-3. Handscombe and Ballance see Yorkies safely to lunch 52-3.
Perambulation allowed at lunch for duration of 1:05 to 1:25. At 1:25 precisely I was making my way to Nursery End . It took 3 stewards shouting at me to use the Lower Mound then Lower Edrich as playing area needs clearing. I eventually complied to save me being on pitch at 1:28.
1st over after lunch Toby achieves early crucial wicket of Ballance. Nothing Hanscomb about next wicket catching practice for Compo from worst ball of the day. Ollie bought on Rashid survived two successive drops, Next over he has Hodd clean bowled.
I'm thinking of how weak their tail is and where's Bresnan? He is with his wife who is about to give birth. I was reflecting on what was happening 9 months ago today. This led to many permutations of what led the event to take place. I will leave that one here for now.
Rashid never looked comfortable is caught behind for a dodgy 35 from bowling of "injured" Franco.

Brooks tries hitting Ollie over the top into TRJ hands. We end session with Stirlo bowling an over of leg spin , then off spin( thanks HR for pointing this out).
After tea Coad plays a dreadful shot into Stirlo hands. Sidebottom receives an ovation all way to the wicket. Some stubborn resistance before the final wicket a big anti climax no appeal everyone standing there before the finger goes up for what actually was a bat pad.

A "Middle Middle Middle" chant followed and then "Can we play you every week" given our recent record against the Yorkies.
There were a few celebratory drinks at the Tavern. The 20/20 was on I would have preferred Sky Sports news where we would have seen these wickets again. South Africa got off to a poor start and we had to ask the question "are you Yorkshire in disguise?". We were discussing the wicket of Smutt out from bowling of Willey but will leave that one there.
Are we happy? You bet your life we are.
What a win. When Yorkshire were 82-1 this looked another bore draw to me. I am delighted to be proved wrong and have Thursday off.

was very audible on the effects mic 5 seconds after final wicket fell.
With nothing to listen to today, I have no choice but to do some gardening.
A small price to pay for a most enjoyable game of cricket.
The providers of the third syllable are among others: guilty as charged : (1) your humble obedient, (2) Roberts,Beefy and (3)Kev,Barmier.
No children were present, and no animals suffered unnecessarily apart from the itinerant pigeons fielding at deep extra cover from the Pavillion end.
Sidebottom's mode of dismissal for his last time at Lord's was one for the logbook. He attempted a reverse sweep against Ollie, and managed to deflect the ball onto the top of his front pad, so it bobbed up to be caught at short leg.
With various players taking cover, moving from slip to leg slip to try to cut the shot off or scrambling to try to make the catch, there was quite a scrum at the striker's end.
To some it seemed obvious that the catch had been made, but I think Siddy lost track of the ball, such was the energy he had put into his shot, so he didn't really know where the ball had gone and how, or he was going to make the umpire give him out.
While some players were already celebrating the win, it was several seconds before someone had the presence of mind to ask the umpire how it was.
Thus it ended. The Middle are back on track.Finny is running in and bowling with pace and venom, nobody plays Tim and Toby with ease, Ollie can keep it tight or bowl with the loop that he did throughout this match, and our batting is an awesome unit.
I'm also going to put my hand up and say that the General bowled well and took a wicket, so his back must be better. He provides a useful variation, and his follow through is a potential assist for Ollie on tracks that may be breaking up. Maybe he was over-cautious against Essex, but there's no one else I'd sooner have captain us.
