A Day 4 gone conclusion

I ran into Barmy Kev as I was leaving Lord's at the end of Day 3 of this match.  He was in the Tavern with a small crowd of the usual suspects.

I had rather lost concentration late in the day, Day 3, but it seemed to me that the umpires had drawn the stumps a little early that day.  Perhaps the relentless sun had passed behind a small wispy cloud for a few seconds, so perhaps it was deemed to be bad light - one of the umpires was Nick Cook after all.

"Are you coming tomorrow?" asked Kev.

"Of course", I replied, "I should get here just before lunch."

"Can you do the match report, then?" asked Kev, "I don't think anyone else is coming."

"Happy to help," I responded.

"I want a full ball-by-ball account", said Barmy Kev in his editorial voice.

I arrived at Lord's on Day Four as promised just before lunch, about 12:40, but there was no sign of any play. I concluded that an innings must have just ended so they took an early lunch.  Poor show, though, that there was no information showing on the scoreboard.

No matter - I had arranged to play real tennis between 13:00 and 14:00; they were bound to be playing again by the time I finished that activity.

Strangely, though, when I came off the tennis court there was still no play.  It was a smidge cloudy at that hour and NGB Cook is one of the umpires for this match, so I assumed that the light had been deemed inadequate still.

The Day Four crowd was very disappointing, virtually non-existent I'd say (see photo), but what do you expect when play gets suspended for the merest whim?  Isn't this supposed to be the entertainment business?

I don't like to complain, I really don't, but I had a similarly disappointing experience last August when I turned up for Day 4 of the match against Durham.  Sort it out, someone.
