Middlesex frustrated

Mahela Jayawardena and Hashan Tillekeratne shared in an unbroken stand of 179 for the 5th wicket to rescue Sri Lanka in their second innings, after Tim Bloomfield had taken three wickets to leave the tourists struggling on 102-4.

Middlesex looked to be in a very strong position after the dismissal of four of Sri Lanka’s most dangerous batsmen, but it wasn’t to be as some powerful hitting from Jayawardena and Tillekeratne put Sri Lanka in control.

Earlier in the day, Middlesex built a useful 1st innings lead of 88 as they added 98 runs to their overnight score of 176-6. Ed Joyce moved onto 93 before becoming one of Charitha Buddika’s four victims. David Alleyne chipped in with a useful 31 and Aaron Laraman was left on 39 not out.


DAY 1

After bowling on the tourist for 189 (Hutton 4-37), Midllesex have set about their business in an impressive mannor. Shah (65) and Joyce (65n/o) top scored for the hosts as Middlesex ended the day on 178 for six.
